Chapter 13: The Big Reveal

The next morning, I woke up to the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. Sunlight streamed softly through the large windows, illuminating the room in a warm, golden glow. And right beside me, sleeping peacefully with one arm draped heavily but protectively across my waist, was Lucas. For months, I had woken up alone in my own room, wondering what it would be like to be this close to him. Now, it was real. It was happening. And it was even better than I had ever imagined. I lay there quietly, studying his face—the sharp features, the long eyelashes, the calm expression that was so different from the strict, scary CEO everyone knew. This was the real Lucas. The one who loved me. The one who held me all night, whispering promises and sweet words until we both fell asleep. Suddenly, his eyes fluttered open. He didn’t startle or move away. Instead, a slow, warm smile spread across his face the moment he saw me. He tightened his arm around me, pulling me closer until there was absolutely no space left between us. "Good morning, my love," he whispered, his voice deep and husky with sleep, sending shivers of happiness all over my body. I smiled back, reaching up to trace his cheekbone with my fingers. "Good morning, husband." The word felt amazing to say. Husband. Not boss. Not Sir. But husband. Mine. He chuckled, leaning in to kiss my forehead, my nose, and finally my lips—soft, sweet, and lingering. "Hearing you say that... it’s better than any success, any money, any achievement I have ever had. You have no idea how much I waited to hear you call me that." He sat up, stretching slightly, then looked at me with a mischievous, excited glint in his eyes. "Today is the day, Mia. Today, everything changes. Today, the whole world will know. No more hiding. No more secrets. Today, I will stand in front of everyone and tell them exactly who you are to me." My heart raced—a mix of nervousness and thrill. "Are you sure, Lucas? What will they say? The employees... the board... Elena... everyone..." He leaned down and kissed me again, firm and reassuring. "Let them talk. Let them stare. Let them be shocked. I don’t care. You are my wife. You are the woman I love. And I am proud to show you off to the whole world. I want everyone to know exactly who owns my heart." He stood up and offered me his hand. "Come on, Mrs. Montenegro. Let’s get ready. We have a company to run... and a life to start." We got ready together—something so simple, yet so incredibly intimate and special. He helped me choose a stunning, elegant dress, one that showed my status as his wife, not just an employee. He brushed my hair gently, his touch so careful and loving, treating me like a queen. When we finally walked down the grand staircase together, hand in hand, everything felt different. The house wasn’t cold anymore. It wasn’t empty. It was ours. Breakfast was wonderful—laughing, talking, stealing kisses, acting like the newlyweds we actually were, instead of the strangers we had pretended to be. It was the first meal we shared as a real couple, and I savored every second of it. When we arrived at the company building, Lucas didn’t let me go to my desk first like I used to. He walked straight to the elevator, pulling me right beside him, his hand never leaving mine. Every employee we passed froze. They stopped walking. They stared. Whispers started immediately, spreading like wildfire. "Is that... isn’t that Mia? The secretary?" "Why is she walking with him? Holding his hand?" "Look at the way he’s looking at her... I have never seen him look at anyone like that." "Is she in trouble? Or... is something else happening?" I felt my cheeks heat up, but Lucas just squeezed my hand tighter, walking taller, more confident, proud to be seen with me. We went straight to the large conference room. Usually, only top executives went there. But today, Lucas had sent a message: All employees, every department, must attend. Important announcement. The room was packed. Hundreds of people stood or sat, murmuring and wondering what was going on. And right at the front, near the stage, stood Elena Cruz. She was wearing her best dress, smiling confidently, expecting Lucas to announce their engagement or partnership like she had been bragging about for weeks. When we walked in, the room went dead silent. All eyes were on us. Especially on our joined hands. Lucas led me to the front, up the small steps to the podium. He stood at the microphone, but he didn’t let go of me. He kept my hand locked in his, raising it slightly so everyone could see. Elena’s smile vanished instantly. Her eyes went wide, shocked and confused. Lucas looked out at everyone, his expression serious, commanding, and powerful—the CEO everyone feared. But then he looked at me, standing right beside him, and his face softened completely, filled with love. "Good morning, everyone," he began, his voice clear and loud, echoing through the room. "I called you all here today to make the most important announcement of my life. More important than any project, any deal, any success this company has ever had." He paused, looking around the room, letting the tension build. "For months, many of you have wondered. You have seen me working closely with Miss Mia Santos. You have seen how I treat her differently. You have seen... that she matters to me." He turned to look at me, his eyes burning with intensity. "And many of you, especially some people here," he glanced sharply at Elena, who looked like she was about to explode, "thought that maybe... maybe I would choose someone else. Someone from a powerful family. Someone who fits the image of what a CEO’s wife should be." He squeezed my hand. "But you were all wrong. Because I didn’t choose based on power, or money, or status. I chose based on my heart. And my heart chose her. It has always chosen her." He turned back to the crowd, raised our joined hands high, and spoke loud and clear, so everyone would hear. "This woman beside me... Mia Santos... is not just my employee. She is not just my secretary. She is... Mia Montenegro. My wife." Gasps filled the whole room. People stood up. Eyes went wide. Murmurs exploded everywhere. Even the oldest executives, who had known Lucas for years, were stunned. "His wife?!" "The secretary is his wife?!" "All this time?! They were married all this time?!" Elena stood frozen, her face pale as a sheet, her mouth hanging open in pure disbelief and rage. She looked at me, then at Lucas, then back at me, realizing she had lost completely. Lucas ignored everyone and continued, his voice full of pride and love. "We were married by contract months ago. We kept it a secret. We lived separate lives. I treated her like a stranger at home, and strictly as an employee here. But somewhere along the way... I fell in love with her. Twice. I fell in love with the quiet, elegant wife I didn't know... and I fell in love with the hardworking, amazing secretary I got to know every day. And only recently did I realize... they were the same woman all along." He pulled me closer to his side, wrapping his arm firmly around my waist, claiming me in front of everyone. "And today, I stand here to tell you: the secret is over. The hiding is done. Mia is my wife. She is my partner. She is the love of my life. And anyone who has a problem with that... anyone who disrespects her... anyone who thinks they can come between us... will have to answer to me." He looked straight at Elena, his gaze cold and sharp enough to cut glass. "Miss Cruz, I believe I made myself clear weeks ago. I have no interest in you, or your family’s deals. My life, my heart, and my future belong entirely to my wife. Do not ever come near me or her again." Elena burst into tears and ran out of the room, humiliated and defeated. Lucas turned back to everyone, his expression softening again. "From this day forward, Mia will work beside me not as a secretary, but as the Co-Owner and Vice President of this company. She is smart, capable, kind, and she deserves every bit of respect you give me. She is the reason this company will grow even more. She is the reason I am better." He looked down at me, smiling that breathtaking smile only I got to see. "She is my Grumpy Boss’s Secretary... and my Secret Husband’s Wife... and now... she is everything I have, everything I am, and everything I will ever be." The room erupted into applause—loud, long, and genuine. Everyone stood up, clapping, cheering, accepting, and celebrating. Lucas leaned down and kissed me right there, in front of everyone. It wasn't a quick kiss. It was deep, passionate, and public. A declaration of love that no one could ignore. When we pulled apart, I looked at him, tears of happiness streaming down my face. "You really did it," I whispered. "You told everyone." He nodded, wiping my tears away. "I promised you, didn't I? No more secrets. And I keep my promises, Mrs. Montenegro. Especially the promises I make to my wife." He held my hand high again as we walked out of the room together, the applause following us all the way out. As we walked down the hallway, everyone bowed and smiled, calling me Madam President, Ma'am, Mrs. Montenegro—titles of respect and love. I looked up at Lucas, my husband, my boss, my love. "Lucas... is this real? Am I dreaming?" He laughed softly, kissing the top of my head. "It is real, Mia. And this is just the beginning. From here on... every day will be better than the last. Every moment will be ours. We have a whole life ahead of us. No lies. No hiding. Just... us." And as we walked into his—our—office, hand in hand, I knew it was true. We started as strangers. We became a secret. We survived confusion and lies. And now... we were finally, perfectly, and beautifully... One.
