It has been 2 months since our wedding day, and nothing seems to have changed between us. We are busy with our own lives that we did not notice so much time has passed by without any development in our relationship. But one thing I commend about Lucas, he is very consistent. He prepares the breakfast for me, he respects my privacy by maintaining a separate bedroom, he shows up in my dinner date with family if I ask him to. We give each other the weekends to spend with our friends so we rarely see each other. He drops me off the university on some days when he leaves the house a little later than usual. Holly is still the one that gives life to our home. By now, I can confirm that Lucas has no plans of crossing the line and he treats this marriage as business.
My parents are back from their European tour, and it happened just in time when Uncle Luciano is about to throw a grand birthday party. He is a well-known fashion designer in the country. In his 60th birthday celebration, he's going to announce and showcase the new season's collection that he's been working on for the last 3 years. He especially reserved these designs to be publicized on his 60th birthday, so this is a big event in the fashion industry.
I chose a gray fitted dress with low V cut at the back. I did my own make up for tonight choosing a fresh look. My hair is neatly tied in a bun and the perfect volume of my bands gave accent to my look. One final glance at the mirror and I'm ready to leave. I picked up my chosen handbag for tonight, an LV from Lucas. He enjoys gifting me luxurious items, and I will never say no to that.
I gasped when I saw him leaning on the wall beside my door. He looked a little mad maybe because of waiting for too long. We were supposed to leave 30 minutes ago.
"You look ethereal, Naomi." His eyes were sparkling when he said that. The look of anger turned into admiration as he stood straight and put his hands inside the pocket of his slacks. He's drop dead handsome in gray suit. I love how he carries himself well in every situation.
"Thanks, Lucas. You look nothing less than great." My casual remark made me blush. This is unfair. I used to have the fattest crush on him before we got married, but now I am scared to flirt. Perhaps I am afraid of the possibility that he will return the effort.
I told him to have the driver take us to the event because it's 2 hours drive and for him to also enjoy the alcohol tonight. For Pete's sake, he chose a 2-seater car to flaunt. I just rolled my eyes when he opened the passenger's seat for me.
"Make sure not to get drunk, Lucas." I warned him when we arrived. He didn't answer but instead wrapped my right arm around his arm. My heart is racing when we entered the mansion where the event is being held. This is the first big event that we are attending as a married couple. I immediately saw familiar faces of relatives and well-known personalities. Uncle Luciano greeted us with the warmest hug.
"My favorite couple is finally here. It's good to see you. These are the face cards that won't ever decline, both gorgeous!" He can't stop complementing us. He has always been fond of Lucas because he carries the surname of one of the wealthiest clan in the country.
"We can't miss this for sure. Lucas and I got you a gift that you will love. Happy birthday, Uncle!"
"Oh thanks, dead. Enjoy the night, okay? I'll see you around."
Lucas also recognized some faces in the crowd. Our first 30 minutes was basically greeting everybody that we know. The next table that we're heading to had my head spinning. It is my first time meeting Amery after marrying Lucas. She is sitting with Red, William, and Alon. There are 3 more ladies on their table that I don't recognize. I stopped from walking when out eyes met, and Lucas didn't even notice that I'm no longer following him.
I turned around and walked away from their direction. My parents are not yet here, I'm certain. I cannot start any drama because my relatives will make a big thing out of it. I joined the table where my cousins are sitting.
"Where's Lucas?" Martini asked. He handed me a glass of champagne.
Classical music is playing in the background, the smell of expensive perfume all over the place is suffocating me. Wherever I look screams elegance. I have everything I want, but somehow I felt insecure when I saw that lady.
"With his bestfriends," I answered and finished the glass in one go. Seeing his ex should not frustrate me. They were no longer together when Lucas and I got married.
"Are you fine?"
"You look glowing, Naomi. I guess that's the effect of honeymoon stage." Claire claimed. If only they have an idea how much we're more like friends than married couple, they wouldn't be saying that.
"I expected you to be on the other side of the world for honeymoon, but you didn't leave the country. I was surprised it's Aunty Alice and Uncle Kid who went to Europe."
"My parents are celebrating for marrying off one of their children. You know Hunter and Thunder don't seem to have any plans of having their own family anytime soon." I answered frankly. I have always been closed with my cousins from both sides. We can talk about anything, but now I am not ready to tell them about my sad love life.
I discreetly ygazed at the direction where I left Lucas sitting on that table looking more comfortable than earlier. The ladies with them seem to be models or social media influencers like Amery. Insecurities started showering me when I saw the two of them talking and giving each other intense gazes.
I took another glass, but this time it is tequila. I closed my eyes when I finished it in one go. I always take alchol well; this time is not special. I need to stay graceful whatever I'm feeling.
But after a minute, I find myself giggling at the corniest jokes around me.
"She arrived less than an hour ago, and is already drunk." River's comment earned him a pinch in the leg from me.
"15-year-old guys wouldn't know the freedom and excitement of being 25. Focus on your studies, no alcohol for now."
"You might need to hold your alcohol, Naomi, You are so red now. What the hell?" It's Claire handing me a glass of water.
"Don'worry about me, guys. I..." Thunder me off. He has finally arrived. I thought no one else from out family will be here. My twin brothers and my parents are late.
"Hey! It's been a while. Having a great night?" He's fully of energy. Thunder sat beside me. He looks good as always. The noise around me lifted my energy. It took Thunder a while to notice how red my face is.
"And you, little lady, why's your blush on a bit too much tonight?"
"She's drunk. Finished 2 glasses in 2 minutes." I looked at the table where Lucas is sitting. My breathing went fast when I saw that he's sitting beside Amery now. They are still talking and their faces are way too close. I was about to reach out for another glass from the waiter that passed by our table, but Thunder snatched that away from me.
"Why would you do that? Get you own!" I surely rolled me eyes. He's annoying.
"I came with mom and dad. Sobber up before they see you like that." I took a deep sigh and stood. I need to get myself together.
"Where are you going?" He carefully held my shoulder when I almost fell as I got out of balance. I'm surprised with the effect of those alcohol.
"To the rest room. It's fine, I can manage, Thunder."
"Are you sure, Princess?" He's always looking after me and I'm thankful for that.
"Yup, don't worry. I'll be back."
I locked myself in the rest room in the third floor. This is so quiet and I can finally collect my thoughts. I decided not to bother Lucas. If he wants to be with me, he will look for me. I should carry on the night, there are so many people that I can talk to.
When I returned to the part, I greeted my parents first. They mentioned that Hunter has fever, so he cannot attend. They were looking for Lucas, so I had to make excuses that he's with his friends.
When I returned to our table, Claire is already talking about her plans to pursue her Master's degree in Spain. It has always been her dream to permanently reside in that country. She went there when she was a teen and fell in love with the culture. I am glad that her dream is finally coming true. One thing I noticed about our parents is that after we reached mid-twenties, they became lenient and more supportive of what we actually want.
We have been sitting there laughing and talking for almost half an hour when Uncle Luciano made an announcement. The lights went dim and spot light was pointed to him. My stupid self still tried to sneak a peal to the table where Lucas was sitting. But he's no longer there. Amery is also nowhere to be seen. Maybe because it's just dark and I cannot see clearly.
The announcement about the new collection getting release in two weeks took almost 2 minutes together with the speech of Uncle thanking everyone who has become part of his career in the past 40 years. When the lights went on, I finally confirmed that those two are missing. It took me back to the years when my heart was screaming his name, but he's all about her. I already married the man, but it feels like he still belongs to his past. I sat idle for the next 10 minutes, but they did not come back.
"Thunder..." I silently call him.
"You've been silent. Are you alright, Princess?" So he noticed that I'm not in my usual self.
"Sorry for ruining the mood. I'm actually not feeling well since this afternoon. I may have to leave early. Do you have a car that we can use?" He looked seriously concerned when he turned to me.
"You went with Lucas. Where is he?" I panicked because of that question.
"Oh sorry I missed to inform you that he has important business to take care of, so he left earlier."
"He did? That guy didn't even say hi to me. Anyway, we can use dad's car." He immediately got up and was about to help me to stand as well when I asked what will our parents use to go home. It's one and half hours drive.
"It's okay. They plan to stay the night here." I nodded and smiled. I got lucky to have the most reliable twin brothers. In my 25 years, they never for once let me down in situations like this.
I requested him to take me to out parents' house. I'll be spending the night there. The only reason I provided to Thunder is that it's 30 minutes less to drive than my house. He didn't ask other questions.
