"I have been waiting for you, what took you so long?" Malcom dare let out so casually, I thought for certain that I was starting to see and hear things.
This couldn't be right. This audacity couldn't be normal.
"No," I whispered shaking my head. "You are not real. Get out of my head."
The image of Malcom I hoped to be imagining, slowly got up from the bed and approached me. "I wish I wasn't real, Alina. I wish it was just us..."
His fingers slightly brushed against my arm sending a shock of waves that confirmed to me that this wasn't my imagination. This was real.
Malcolm was really here.
"No strings and no complications... Just us..." He kept whispering, as his annyingly intoxicating fingers kept reaching for me.
But this time he didn't get the same effect. My anger and shock was more than whatever desire he could raise within me.
I swatted his fingers away and took a step back. "How dare you?" I spat out. "How dare you lie to me and still have the audacity to come here, for what? Fool me a third time?"
"I didn't lie to you, Alina—"
"You didn't?" I scoffed, not even believing my ears. "You told that I was your mate and that our bond was inevitable and s**t. Yet, you had a freaking Luna all along? And daughters?"
Something flashed in his eyes but was soon replaced with a grin. "I didn't know you could be a jealous lover, Alina... I like it."
My jaw literally dropped to the ground and i shook my head as I stepped away from him. "It's official. The mighty Alpha King, Malcom Black is crazy. You have lost your mind and somehow, I can't believe I got tangled in it!"
The grin on his eyes only grew brighter. "Finally, we are starting to understand each other..." He spread his arms. "I am crazy, Alina... I have lost not just my mind— but my heart too and it's all in your hands..."
"Oh goddess," I whimpered unable to believe what I was witnessing.
A light chuckle left his lips as if my words were the funniest he had ever heard.
"Anyway, I came to tell you that tomorrow, we will be having an official presentation ceremony and you'll be my date."
"What?" I blurted my brows almost reaching my hairline in shock.
"Yes, And don't worry, Mary will bring all the things you may or may not need... Do have a wonderful night, love."
He blew me a kiss from where he stood and walked out of the room, leaving my emotions crashing into me with a heavy blow.
How did I get here? How did one stupid night stand, turn out so horribly?
A lot of girls did it. Why did mine turn so sour?
"Goddess, are you punishing me?" My eyes went to the door and the tremors from the shock still washed over me.
How could he not even be worried?
"Was he really crazy?" My eyes widened as the thought sank in. This was the only explanation. He was crazy.
My mind continued reeling with thoughts as I stood there unable to even sit on the bed. This was a dilemma that I couldn't even begin to think about how to get out of it.
Who could help me— "No!" I jumped as a sudden knock echoed against my door.
My heart started ramming in my chest as I feared what Malcom would want now. How could I handle a crazy person? How did I end up mated to him?
But the door didn't open. My eyes quickly moved to the lock and I could clearly see that it was open. So why wasn't he coming in?
My thoughts then went to Mary. But even she already said she could open the door whenever she wanted, which left only one person.
Luna Xora.
Oh s**t. Did she see Malcom leaving my room?
The fear in my heart descended to my knees and each knock sequence almost sent me toppling. But I had to be brave.
Taking a deep breath and pretending to push away the shock I had earlier, I formed a fake smile and pulled the door open.
"I am sorry, I was—" my words and smile instantly faded as my eyes landed on who was actually at the door, Daphne Black.
"Aren't you going to invite me in?"
My tongue suddenly went dry and I couldn't bring myself to come up with words, I simply stepped aside for her to walk in as I forced a smile.
"Huh... Hi?" I stuttered awkwardly.
Her eyes moved over my room, and I didnt know if it was just her personality, or that stare was actually distasteful.
"Hmm, anyway," She finally sighed, fixing her eyes on me. "Mother asked me to give you the family bracelet... I am sure you are pretty much used to things like this at your home..."
She extended the small velvet box to me but as I made to take it, she pulled it back.
"Or is the security situation so bad that you don't wear your jewelries around any more?"
"Oh no... Actually we do wear them." I said, not sure what exactly she wanted me to say.
"Hmm, interesting." Finally handed me the box and turned to my window. "It's good that your ancestors were so lucky to find such a gem filled land but unfortunately your parents weren't wise enough to build a strong army. How sad?"
"Excuse me?" I blinked, actually getting offended.
She turned from the window and smiled, an unsettling stretch of her thin lips. "I know what you are. I know what you want... You are just a w***e who needs my family's protection for your deteriorating gold."
"What are—"
"If you think no one is watching you, then you are wrong... I am. And a soon as you manage to give my brother a proper heir, we wouldn't even need you anymore..."
She pushed pass me and pulled the door open. "Now, try to make a proper presentation tomorrow... It will be good for pack PR... Goodnight Alina."
