38 After about an hour of heavy traffic and Ariadne cursing in Elvish, we found ourselves walking on the Common in central Boston. The Common, a large expanse of green grass that was crisscrossed by brick sidewalks and dotted by shady trees, was not really a place that I’d expected Ariadne to take us. Yet here we were, and Ariadne was telling us that there was a secret gateway into some kind of hideout that had belonged to Markel and Cerridwen. We all trooped behind her as she strode confidently down the brick path across the Boston Common, not knowing yet what we were headed for. Cars flew by us on the road in a confused blur.
