“Abbie, what were you thinking?” Ariadne said harshly almost as soon as the zombies behind us disappeared around a corner. “You could have died! You could have gotten us all killed!”
“I’m sorry,” I said meekly. Ash, Ian, and Gabe all looked at me, curiosity in their eyes. I turned toward the window, trying to hide my face.
“What were you trying to do?”
“I don’t know,” I mumbled. “I got distracted.”
“Distracted? By what? All you had to do was get in the van and let us leave. That’s all you had to do!”
“I thought I saw my family.”
