33 “We’re here,” Ariadne said suddenly. The car came to a stop and shuddered a bit as Ariadne shifted it into park. I drifted out of the shallow sleep that I had fallen into. It was light enough outside for me to see everyone as they sat up and rubbed their eyes. Wait. Why was it light outside? I looked around, dazed, and realized that I was able to see because the van was parked in a city. Outside us were lonely streets and yellow streetlamps. “Where are we?” I said. “Lawrence, Massachusetts,” said Ariadne. “Why are we in a city?” Ash demanded. She seemed to have woken up quickly.
