By the time Ed calmed down after a stressful day dealing with the FBI and the near-death experience of their confidential informant, he unexpectedly wanted to stop at the office rather than go straight home. He contemplated texting Kailani to let her know of the decision but knew she would initially request he come home. But after rationalizing she would eventually understand because he was busy with a career-making case, he decided against texting her. Eventually, he would get an earful if she never heard from him and he came home late. Ed was willing to risk it and deal with it later.
