Chapter 8 Jacob dresses quickly. He feels as rumpled as his jeans. His shirt smells like sour beer and cigarette smoke, so he doesn’t put it on. Instead, he ties it around his waist, over his belt, and tucks his tank top into his jeans. He’d like to shower but he’d have to put on the same clothes and he doesn’t want to do that, not if he cleans up. He’ll wait until they get back to the school. Then he’ll shower and fall into bed. He thinks he can sleep until this evening with no problem, he’s that tired. Well, not so much tired as his head still hurts, just enough to make him want to lie down again. Upstairs, he thinks, following Avery down the steps to the living room. I want to lie back down upstairs with him again. He wishes he were twenty-three now. He wishes he lived here and woke up
