Chapter 3 Avery forgot all about the mass. It’s not a holy day of obligation for the Catholic church, but it is for St. Thomas Aquinas Boarding School for Boys. All students must attend because they each have a rosary. It’s like a compass in other schools, something you have to buy, even if you’re not Catholic. Even though Avery is, he’s never used his. The thing tonight isn’t even a mass, not really. There’s no Eucharist, just a few readings before the monsignor blesses the rosaries. Then he prays on the beads, singing every other prayer in Latin.
