Chapter 1
“Get out of my way! You are a disgrace to my name!”
My father’s furious voice thundered through the mansion as he pushed me backward violently. The force sent my luggage crashing to the marble floor just as the sharp sting of his slap landed heavily across my cheek.
I staggered, holding my burning face in shock.
We were supposed to leave for Paris that morning. Instead, I was standing in the middle of the living room being humiliated like a criminal.
“How dare you tarnish my image?” Father roared, his eyes filled with disgust. “You embarrassed me everywhere! You, the daughter I once called my favorite!”
Tears gathered in my eyes instantly.
Behind him stood Teresa, my stepmother, with a satisfied smile dancing on her lips. Her long polished nails dug painfully into my ear as she dragged me closer like I was nothing but dirt.
“Oh yes, beat her well,” she mocked. “She is a shameful child.”
On the other side of the room sat my stepsister, Serena, crossing her legs elegantly while recording everything with her phone. She laughed softly, enjoying every second of my misery.
I stood frozen. My entire body trembled violently under the cold air conditioner, yet sweat poured down my skin. My teeth clashed against each other uncontrollably.
“I told you before, Gabriel,” Teresa continued dramatically, facing my father. “Davina moves around with different men. I have seen her several times. That pregnancy in her womb obviously came from one of them.”
Father’s expression darkened immediately.
Slowly, he walked toward me. Each step felt like thunder against my chest.
“Who impregnated you?” he demanded coldly. “You better speak now, or you are not following us to Paris anymore.”
My lips parted, but no words came out. I stared at him helplessly.
How could I explain something I did not understand myself?
I was pregnant, yet, I did not know how. Or by who.
The discovery had destroyed me completely. All I remembered was attending a party weeks ago after Serene begged me to accompany her. There had been drinks… loud music… dizziness…
Then darkness, everything after that night remained blank. I still could not tell if I had been trapped, framed… or violated. But nobody cared to hear my confusion. To them, I was already guilty.
At the corner, Serena suddenly stood up dramatically.
“Daddy,” she interrupted softly, pretending to cry. “Davina wouldn’t even know who the man is. She was so drunk that night. I warned her not to follow those men.”
My eyes widened in horror. Lies, these terrible lies.
“She even tried forcing me to go with her,” Serena continued innocently. “But because I respect myself, I refused.”
A painful gasp escaped my lips. I stared at her like someone stabbed my chest open.
She knew the truth. She knew I had never lived a reckless life.
She knew I was innocent, yet she stood there destroying me effortlessly.
Crocodile tears rolled down her cheeks as she hugged my father tightly.
“Daddy,” she whispered emotionally, “I told you she is a bad influence.”
Father hugged her protectively, gently stroking her hair like she was an angel sent from heaven.
Then he turned toward me again. His eyes carried nothing but disappointment.
“You will stay back,” he announced firmly. “I will not allow you to corrupt my little angel anymore. You are not coming with us to Paris.”
The words hit harder than the slap.
I froze completely.
“No, daddy!” I cried desperately, falling to my knees. “Please! My education… my dreams… I need to continue school…”
My father laughed bitterly.
“With that pregnancy?” he scoffed. “Who will even accept you into college looking like this?”
My tears flowed uncontrollably.
“Besides,” he added cruelly, “I have tolerated enough of your disgraceful behavior. I refuse to let you spoil Serena.”
“I’m your daughter too…” I whispered painfully.
“But you are a bad influence.”
“No daddy, that is not true!” I cried loudly. “Please believe me! I don’t know how this happened!”
“She is lying,” Teresa whispered beside him.
“Don’t believe them!” I screamed, my voice cracking. “I don’t know any man! I don’t even understand how I became pregnant! Please believe me… I have never lied to you…”
Father’s face twisted in anger.
“Hear yourself, Davina,” he snapped. “How is that even possible? Unless you are nothing but a p********e!”
The insult shattered something inside me. I broke down completely on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, Serena quietly smiled behind Father’s back. She had won. Everything was going exactly as she planned. Father picked up his suitcase coldly.
“I have made my decision,” he declared. “We are leaving now. You can stay in this house for all I care and raise your child alone.”
My heart stopped.
“From today onward,” he continued mercilessly, “you have nothing to do with me anymore.”
Then he turned and walked away.
Teresa followed proudly.
Serena paused briefly beside me before bending down with a wicked smile.
“You were always his favorite,” she whispered softly into my ear. “I simply fixed that.”
Fresh tears poured from my eyes.
I watched helplessly as they walked out of the mansion together.
Moments later, the sound of the car engine echoed through the compound before disappearing into the distance.
Silence, painful silence. The huge mansion suddenly felt empty. Cold and lonely.
I remained on the floor for a very long time, staring blankly at the entrance door. They were truly gone.
My own family abandoned me. I slowly wrapped trembling arms around my stomach as tears rolled endlessly down my cheeks.
Who was the father of the baby growing inside me?
Outside, dark clouds gathered heavily in the sky as rain began
to fall.
And there I sat alone in the middle of the silent mansion…
Humiliated, broken…. and pregnant… and completely abandoned by the people I loved most.
What was I supposed to do now?
And how would I survive this?
Questions filled my mind endlessly, yet none had answers.
