It was seven in the morning when she screamed. The pain was unbearable, as she clutched her stomach, tears pouring out of her blue-violet eyes. After a few minutes, the door finally bursted, and in came the maid Julia, who immediately called the doctor.
After hours, a baby’s crying filled the sound-proof room, but no one heard except Julia.
"My lady! My lady! You have birth to twins; two daughters, in fact,” Julia exclaimed, unable to hold in her excitement.
“No, we cannot keep them,” the mother whispered, her voice hoarse. She slid her strawberry blond hair away from her face, that was trickling with sweat, in order to see Julia more clearly.
“They won’t give mercy, Julia, we have to hide them.”
Suddenly, gun shots were heard outside and the both of them went to take cover, each of them gripping the children as if their life depended on it. The mother shoved a bag full of money in Julia’s hands.
“Take the secret passage, now Julia, we don’t have much time!”
“But what of you, my lady? I can’t bring myself to leave you!”
“Leave with Alaska,” the mother pointed to the child Julia is holding, “and make sure she lives well and don’t let her get her involved with any dangerous matters. GO!”

Julia ran with all her might, never turning back, until she finally aboard a plane to New York, far away from Italy as possible. She promised to take care of her lady and swears to loyalty.
Tears running down her cheeks, she touches the baby’s face with care, looking into her eyes that she inherited from her mother, and smiled at the child’s curiosity.
“Stay strong, my dear Alaska."
