Axel I look at what is remaining of the man that had gone missing a few hours ago. I really stare at him looking for anything out of the ordinary. According to alpha Dan, the man was thirty seven years old and he had gone missing while on patrol on their eastern border. There was nothing left except for pieces of body parts given that he had been shredded. His head had been found a few meters from where his shredded body had been, his eyes open, completely frozen by what I could only assume was pure terror. I stand up and sweep my eyes looking for anything that could clue us on what happened or what we were dealing with. My eyes land on a tree that was two feet away from us. I step towards it and bend to closely examine it. “What are you looking at” Hunter asks me seeming puzzled. Leo one of my head warriors joins us also trying to figure out what I was looking at. “What do you see?” I asked them straightening. “Nothing, absolutely nothing” Leo answered after a while. “Look closely” After two minutes or so, Hunter straightens and looks at me, “Blood” “Exactly, a speck…so tiny that someone might miss entirely” So far we have had nothing to work with and this may just be our first clue as small as it may be. It may not be much but it could lead us to something that is big enough to begin fitting the pieces together. “Your highness, I don’t mean to imply anything but the blood is probably the victims” Leo says completely avoiding eye contact. He was smart to avoid eye contact because Remus, my wolf was fighting to come to the surface because we both viewed what he said as an insult. He basically called us stupid because we had overlooked the probability of the blood belonging to the dead man. I let out a growl, making both him and his wolf kneel down in submission, “And you think I hadn’t thought of that?” “Take a damn sniff and tell me what you scent” I order him, both Remus and I satisfied at the fear coating the air. Hunter doesn’t say a word, just stands there with his arms folded and a small smirk on his face. I needed to get this sorted and get them on the trail so that I could get a move on and get to the council on time. The council is made up of the rulers of the three supernatural factions and the twelve elders made up of two elders from each faction. Given all that was happening and all the dead bodies we were finding, a meeting was necessary, something I wasn’t looking forward to. “It has no scent” Leo finally answered drawing me from my thoughts. “You’re right, and given the dead man blood has a scent to it then this blood probably belongs to whoever attacked him” “It has no scent Axel so we can’t trace it…we’re back to square one” Hunter adds. I shake my head at them because I feel frustrated by how dense they can be. Do I need to spell everything out for them? “Yeah but it means the man over there fought for his life and injured his attacker enough to make him bleed” I fill them in then round everyone up “Okay, spread out and look for a blood trail, no matter the size” I tell them then turned to Hunter, “I’m sure we can follow the trail to his or her hideout” It was really hard to say what we were dealing with because the way the body had been torn to pieces suggested claws and as far as I knew, only wolves had claws. But there was something about how it has been done, that I couldn’t quite put my fingers on it. Something was off about how they died, there was something I was missing but no matter how hard I thought or how I tried adding things up, something just wasn’t quite f*****g right. One of the bodies, a girl around seventeen had been found whole. Unlike the others who had either been torn apart, clawed or blood sucked, she had none of those signs except bruises but the coroner said that she had been r***d before being killed. The cause of her death still remains unknown and the coroners can’t figure it out. They found traces of c*m in her mouth and v****a, and what lead them to the r**e conclusion is the fact that she had tears and fissures on the interior of her vaginal walls which suggest forced entry and friction. I hated that her last moments on earth was of being f*****g r***d. She didn’t deserve that. She had a whole life ahead of her and it was torn by a sick bastard that decided to r**e her body in such a cruel way. There was no way to know if her death was related to the other murders but I had a gut feeling that it was somehow related and that probably, it wasn’t just one person committing these murders. “Boss? I got something” one of my enforcers calls to me. I walked to him and found him crouched looking at a few drops of blood on the forest floor. Just like the speck we got, it had no scent. “Good job…continue looking” I tell them and continue my own search I was puzzled at how someone’s blood had no scent. Yes we have heard cases of werewolves and even vampires hiding their scents but that only works on a person’s natural scent. To have them hide even the scent of their blood, then it had to take serious amount of magic. Thirty minutes later we were standing in front of a cave. The trail had led us to it and but by the looks of things whoever it was didn’t stay here long after being injured. They way their clothes and things were carelessly thrown throughout the cave suggested he or she left in a hurry. There was a cloth full of blood meaning he cleaned up his wound before leaving. They knew they were bleeding but didn’t try to hide the trail because they were cocky enough to believe that they couldn’t be found since their blood had no scent. But there are more than one way to kill a rat and I planned to f*****g exhaust all of them. I was certain that they weren’t working alone and that they had a leader and my guess is that they had ran back to whoever was their master. We surveyed the room and found two more dead bodies, completely torn apart but after asking alpha Dan we found out the two are not members of their pack. “Grab anything you can but be careful not to touch them” I tell my enforcers. “What’s the use?…this is just another dead end, no scent no nothing” Dan says frustrated hitting the wall near him. It was damn frustrating but I wasn’t about to give up not when it was my people who were getting offed and kids were also getting targeted. “We might not get a scent but maybe we can run the systems and see if we can get a match on the DNA” I tell him before turning to Hunter who was caught my attention. “You’re going to be late for the meeting” “f**k! I completely forgot…stay here and make sure everything goes smoothly” I tell him heading out to which he nods. An hour later I was seating in a meeting room with the elders, Damien and queen Samara who was the monarch of the witches and warlocks. “Where is Seth? He is the one who usually attends these meetings” elder Mark, who also happens to be my uncle asks. “I apologise for his absence but he had an urgent matter that he had to attend to” Seth replied “More important than what we have to discuss here today?…I’m sure you know the severity of the matter” Samara’s lips were pulled back in anger Given that two of the dead kids were from her faction you can understand why she is pissed plus there is the whole enemies between the vampires and witches. It’s not that we werewolves get along with any of them, we all hate each others guts and have never been able to see eye to eye but their animosity increased after what happened to Cassius. “Actually yes…as a matter of fact I don’t see how this concerns vampires, it looks more of a wolf-witch problem” his cold eyes stare at Samara in an open challenge to contradict him. “Calm the f**k dow, both of you!” I shout, hitting the table, already tired of their bickering. It has always been like this, every single f*****g meeting. Them fighting, whether it was Seth attending the meeting or Damien. It was always entertaining but not today, I had a lot to deal with and I was not about to sit through them arguing like f*****g kids when they was someone out there killing. They both turn to look at me, Samara with a sneer and Damien with a sly smirk. “And how the hell am I supposed to do that when your mangy beasts killed two of my own” “For the last f*****g time, we did not kill those two kids…none of mine did” I growl at her. I’ve said it like a thousand times but she wouldn’t listen just because their bodies were found at our territory didn’t mean that we killed them. We’re protective of our young so why the hell would we go and kill theirs? “And I still don’t f*****g believe you…you and your people are animals and behave like them so it wouldn’t surprise me if you hunted them for fits and giggles” “What the f**k did you say?” I asked standing up, allowing Remus to come to the surface. We hated the insult but most importantly we hated the disrespect from her. We both saw it as a challenge and we never back down from a challenge. “I said you are bloody animal, smelly, many and stupid” she replied standing up. “Let’s all just calm down” my uncle tries soothing but it doesn’t work. “Is that so?…then let me show you just how animalistic I can be” I ignore Mark and reply to Samara, allowing my claws to come out and taking on a partial shift. I was a pure blood lycan yes but I was the only one from both the lycans and werewolves that could manage a partial shift, where both forms share control, thus shifting into a half man, half beast. The rest could only shift into one or the other depending on who was in control but a partial shift has always come easy for me for as long as I can remember. “Umm, guys…” I hear Damien call out but I ignore him, wholly focused on my prey. Samara creates a ball of fire and throws it towards me but I dodge. I take a swipe at her with my claws and manage to claw her making her release a shriek. I have always been the level headed one but today Samara took it too far and I would be damned if I let her get away with it. The elders choose to stay out of it, being content with just letting us fight the aggression out of our systems. “Guys?..” I hear Damien call out again but we ignore him and continue our fight. I haven’t been able to land another blow on her but that doesn’t mean I’m giving up. “Guys!!” This time he shouts, releasing his suffocating energy. “What!” Samara and I say at the same time. We look at him and he looks a bit off, like he trying to listen to something. “Do you hear that?” He asks. Samara and I look at each other before turning to him. The worried look on his face makes us stop fighting and start paying attention. I listen in and that when I hear it, the ticking of a clock. We all look at each other even the elders, all of us confused as hell. “What the hell” Before I can even finish that though and anyone can do anything about it, the timer stops and there is an explosion which knocks me back against the wall. The last thing I see before I black out is a shadowy figure. The last thing I hear is my brother the others screams and my brother shouting my name through the mind link.
