Axel “Axe?” “Axel! Wake the f**k up” The panicked voice wakes me jolt up straight and it takes a while for my vision to adjust and to get my bearing. Hunter is kneeling beside me with a worried look on his face. I can still feel the ringing in ear, still feel the heat of the blast and the impact I made on the wall. “What the hell happened?” I snapped, still reeling from the pounding headache that had taken over. Fuck! It felt like my head had been split wide open not to mention the pain I was in from the impact and also the pain on my side which on looking down, I found it was because a piece of wood had pierced the left side of my stomach. The entire council room was destroyed with nothing left except broken chairs and tables, destroyed walls and a room full of smoke. “It seems like you guys were attacked” I look at him still trying to process what happened. This has never happened before which puzzles me as to why now. Whoever blew the council building up knew that we were going to have a meeting and that all of us were going to be there. Meaning they wanted the leaders of the supernatural factions dead. It was an outright declaration of war. “I’ve already gathered that Hunter” I said sarcastically. “How did you know I was in trouble?” I asked him. Yes he was my brother and we had a special link, plus there was also the pack link, but I always cut it off unless I really needed to use. Since I was the lycan king I was connected to all werewolves and lycans and it is not fun having all those thoughts in your mind. The thoughts and desires could probably drive a weak man to insanity because sometimes it becomes hard to differentiate between your people’s thoughts and yours. “I think it was during the blast…but you somehow let your shock and pain leek into the family link” With that being said, I push my walls back up even though I could hear my mother and sister screaming for me. I knew they were worried but I couldn't focus on them, not when a room full of the supernatural council had been blown up. He helped me stand up and the moment we did I gripped the piece of wood and ripped it out of me. It hurt like a b***h but I had to do it in order for the healing to step in. I looked down after a moment when I realized that I wasn't healing and that I couldn’t even feel Remus. Right about now, he would already be bitching about how he was going to tear whoever it was that did this from limb to limb. “Remus?” I called but received nothing I turned to Hunter. “Remus isn’t answering and I’m not healing” Hunter bit his lip nervously, something that he always does when he is about to say something I don’t like. “Can’t you smell it? it looks like it was infused in the bomb” he replied. I take a whiff of the air but I smell nothing other than smoke and burned wood. “I can’t smell s**t Hunter” I snapped because I was injured and it hurt like a b***h and he was here delaying the answer to a question I had asked him. “Brimstone” he finally spat. If you thought wolfbane was poisonous to werewolves and lycans then you had no idea what brimstone could do. Unlike wolfbane, brimstone was the only thing that was dangerous to all supernaturals, the only one that could affect all of us.It was worse than wolfsbane. And given that none of us detected it while we were in the room only means that its scent was concealed, until the bomb went off that is. That also explains why I couldn’t smell anything, couldn’t heal and couldn’t hear Remus. When the bomb went off, the brimstone particles must have entered our bodies. Whoever did this wanted us weakened and not able to call on for help thus ensuring our demise which would leave the supernatural world in shambles and unprotected. “f**k! Uncle Mark?” I asked him, holding my side to stop the bleeding. If I had known that I wasn’t going to heal immediately, I wouldn’t have pulled out the wood. At least when it was still embed deep inside I wasn’t bleeding as much. “He is okay…took a hit to the head but he’s better off than you are” he explained and I could tell the relief in his voice that at least one of us was fine. Damn, I could feel myself weaken from the blood loss but I was otherwise glad that Mark was okay. “The rest?” I turned to look at the room but there was no one else there, just Hunter and I. I couldn’t listen out because my supernatural abilities weren’t working. “I contacted their people and they come to get them. Samara was still unconscious when her faction came to take her and Damien just like you wasn’t in good shape. As for the elders they all took hits but at least you are all alive” he said in a somber tone. I don’t reply to that but instead just focused on talking one step at a time without falling on my ass. Fuck, I felt like a p***y having to be helped by my little brother to walk while swaying. Every inch of me hurt like a b***h because it has been a long time since I’ve felt pain. Thanks to being the most powerful lycan and having the strongest beast in existence, I rarely felt pain since healing usually kicks in immediately and within a few minutes, sometimes seconds I’m healed. We reached outside and I saw that only our cars are left. It seemed like it took a while for me to come back to consciousness since all of the others were gone. Of course I couldn’t blame. After what happened today, none of the factions would risk their leaders and elders getting attacked again. We walked slowly and once I got near my car, Mark drew me into a manly hug making me wince in the process. He had a cut on his forehead and thank the moon goddess that it wasn’t that deep. He was the closest father figure I had since I was ten after my dad, the former king had been killed during and ambush. I wasn’t the only one whose life had been turned upside down that night. Uncle Mark had lost his mate and his son Kade, who had been my cousin and other best friend. Kade, Luke (My beta) and I had been inseparable since birth. We had been best friends always up to mischief. Mum used called us the three musketeers. That ambush had taken from us more than we could ever hope to recover. “Thank f**k!” he whispered tears shinning in his eyes. I give him a small smile then turn to look at those present. I could tell that my warriors were worried but there was nothing I could do about it. “Where is elder Mathews” I asked him given he wasn’t present. “He wasn’t feeling well and I was afraid he had a concussion given he was weak on his feet so I sent him home ahead of us with a few guards” Mark replied. I nodded then got in the car and we started the drive back home. Hunter took the passenger seat while Uncle Mark and I took the back seats. Damn it, my head was pounding and I hated it. Given what had happened we were going back home. “Does any of you have a painkiller? My head is about to split wide open” There was a chorus of no from everyone before Mark said. “I think you have a concussion” I wasn’t going to argue that point because with the way I was feeling it might as well be true. They chatted in the car, since it was a long drive back to my pack lands but I didn’t join in mainly because I just wanted rest and also because it was adding to my headache. They were talking conspiracy theories everyone one of them trying to form an idea about what could have happened but for me it was pretty simple, someone had tried killing the council. I close my eyes trying to reach out to Remus again but with no luck. I hoped he was fine because it would take a few days to erase the brimstone from ours system. I had just gotten comfortable when the car came to a screeching stop. I looked through the window seeing men in mask blocking our path. We didn’t have time to react before they pulled out guns and started shooting at us. “Get down!” I shouted to everyone. Despite the aches in my body, I threw myself on top of Mark and used my body to shield him. A few minutes later I heard growls and I knew that my warriors had shifted. It f*****g pissed me off that I couldn’t shift with them because I had a lot of pent up anger and I wanted to tear these mother fuckers apart. This was the second time today that an attempt at an assassination had been made and I seriously wanted my pound of flesh. There were snarls and growl for a few minutes and then everything went quiet. My door was opened and there stood Hunter back naked. I hadn’t even heard him leave. I threw him some extra pants that I always keep in my car for emergencies. “You guys okay?” he asked. I just nodded, my jaw tight with how hard I was trying to reign in my temper then I stepped out of the car with Mark following me. “They escaped…we weren’t able to catch them” Leo said joining us. I knelt down studying the bullet then picked it up. Just like I had suspected it burned my skin, meaning they had intent to either kill or to seriously injure and that’s why they used silver. “I want these assholes f*****g caught and I want the cctv footage from council building asap.” I growled before getting back into the car. They messed with the wrong royal. I don’t care what it takes but I was going to bring those fuckers down no matter what.
