My breath held, but I was quick to snap my senses back, moving away so I created as much distance between us as possible. “Don't… Don't stop.” I shook my head at my own stutter, heart starting to beat twice as fast. This wasn't good. Heck, it definitely wasn't. I had to clear my throat then try again. “We are doing business together, and there should only be formal… Just-Just don't stop being professional. It's best for everyone.” Drex raised a brow, and I could be sure the side of his lips was starting to pull like he knew exactly what was going on inside me. It made my fingers curl at my side. I didn't even bother to ask why he hadn't left like Erica. With a short nod, I turned and went back in, trying to keep my steps straight. I didn't stop walking until I was in my office where I released a lot of breath, hand moving to my chest. What the heck just happened? And why on earth was my heart slamming so hard? I had to take in extra breaths to calm myself. This was nothing. Whatever just happened meant nothing. The week had just been too stressful and my body was reacting to it. Nothing more. I said that to myself till my body started to believe it and my heart rate normalized. Drex was my past. It was going to stay that way. •• – Cassie Boe – “This is insane!” I growled, feet pacing back and forth the garden. “Completely insane!” Trish, on the other hand, sat crosslegged, a glass of wine on her hand. “How can she be back? She shouldn't be back, aunt! When I sent those divorce papers, I was sure that's the last time I'd hear from her. I thought she was dead. “And just when I was getting Drex to love me, she decides to bring her miserable self back!” “You might want to calm down, dear.” My face scrunched, because that had to be the most absurd thing I'd heard from her. “Calm down?” I scoffed. “I looked her up, aunt. That b***h is the CEO of one of the biggest design industries in the US. “And now,” I ran a hand through my hair, “Now that David's retired, she's the new CEO of DRX!” Just that thought was enough to make me grow crazy. Lisa couldn't be the CEO. That would make her my boss. ‘My’ boss! “This is the same female I once locked in a dumpster for one hour, this is so unfair.” I cried, but she didn't do anything. Just took a sip of her wine, then stared. “Are you done?” “What?” I frowned. “Aren't you worried?” “Worried?” She breathed out a laugh. “The last person that can make me ‘worried’ is Lisa.” “Why? What do you mean?” “She might be wealthy and own a successful company, but that doesn't change who she was.” My frown deepened. “She's very powerful now, aunt. She even has guards follow her wherever she goes.” The side of her lips curled up. “My point exactly. She carries guards with her because she's scared. “She thinks she'll be attacked if not. That little girl I trained is still in her. All she's done so far is mask it with money and power. “But that girl… never left.” I found myself moving to sit down. “So what are you saying?” “That you have no reason to worry. She might be the CEO, but if she steps on your toes, then you might as well lock her in the dumpster again.” I knew she didn't mean it literally, but just the thought of kicking her into trash like I did in the past was enough to drag a smile up my lips. It would be nice to get back to those days. “You know what… Maybe I will.”
