While Halo frolics in the shallow wading pool in Kawaii Hale's backyard, submerging his large canine head into the warm water and splashing as he prances about, Abby Goodwin and Pari soak their bare feet and sip chilled mango drinks.
"The loss of a life—a murder, even—is more important than a wedding," Abby says, pulling her straw hat down lower to protect her light and freckled skin from the sun. "I don't mean to minimize it. I am completely horrified that it happened. And I wonder if it is yet another sign that this wedding is a big mistake."
