Amelia Pov I walked into the compound, and decorative light and illuminance lit up the whole place. I stood and stared at the beautiful mansion in the compound. The day I left came flashing through my head like it happened yesterday. It has been four years now since I left the house following the best decision I have ever made. A few days ago, Lady Wilson called me, reminding me of her 70th birthday and how she was holding a birthday bouquet. I never wanted to come, but Jude persuaded me to come. I was still lost in my thoughts when Gina walked toward me and interrupted me into reality. “ Look who we have here”. She said My facial expression hardened immediately. I tried not to show it as I smiled awkwardly and replied. “ Hey Gina, How have you been?” I asked. Gina folded her hands together and continued nonchalantly. “ Why are you here?” she asked. “ The last time I checked, Daddy made it clear to you not to ever return to the house”. She explained. I looked towards the ground as tears surrounded my eyelashes. I do not know why Gina has so much hate towards me. Yes, my dad asked me not to return to the house four years ago when I decided to marry Jude, whom my father refused me from marrying. I love Jude so much that I can't imagine spending my life without him in the picture. Even when my dad told me I wouldn't be able to have any opportunities as a member of the Wilson family, I gladly accepted because all I wanted was Jude and Jude alone, but she is supposed to rub it in my face, at least we are family. I tried to struggle with words out of my mouth when Ferd called my name from afar. “ Amelia..” He called out, smiling and walking towards me. He was a lifesaver because, why not? I was so stuck with Gina. “ How have you been? You never replied to any of my text messages and calls. He asked. I breathed in relief and gave a warm smile. Ferd is the only family member who stood by me. I just didn't want to bother him with my problem, and that's why I haven't been picking up his calls. “ I’m good. You look perfect tonight”. I answered. Gina interrupted as she chuckled and said “ So you do call her? I don't just get why you keep associating with losers”. She said “ Gina!!” Ferd called out softly. “ How many times have I told you not to talk to your elder sister like that”. He added “ Oh please, she is just my half-sister”. Gina answered and she walked away. Ferd looked at me as he smiled awkwardly, patted me on my shoulder and said “ Don’t let what she said get to you, okay?” “ I am sure she didn't mean it”. He explained. I also tried giving a smile in return as I nodded in agreement and murmured silently “ Yes, she didn't mean it”. ************************************ I walked toward the event hall. Inside the mansion, we have a banquet hall where events and parties of the Wilson family are held. It is very spacious and carefully decorated with luxury furniture. The inside was redecorated with black and gold. I stood at the entrance and took a few seconds of deep breaths. I sighted Rose, the company secretary who was greeting and receiving gifts on behalf of Lady Wilson from business partners and family friends. “Why are you still standing here?” Ferd said as he tapped me from behind. I looked at him and smiled. Getting to the table where the families were sitting, I saw Lady Wilson in a grand outfit surrounded by her children and grandchildren. “ Why are you here alone?” “Where is your so-called husband”? Lady Wilson asked I bowed my head as I struggled words out of my mouth “ He has an urgent matter to attend to”. I answered “Always making excuses for him” “ You haven't learned your lessons” Annabella, my Stepmother said. “ I am sorry” I answered in a shaking voice. “ You are always sorry” “You just seem worthless to the family”. John Wilson, my dad said. “Stop it!!” “ She is still your child, remember?” Lady Wilson said interrupting him. “ I only have two children” my dad answered as he stared straight into my eyes face to face. My eyes became red, water surrounded my eyes. “ I wish you were never born” He added as he stood up and walked away. I stood up quickly as I couldn't hold back the tears anymore. I walked towards the door and allowed the water to drop, not minding if I’d been noticed or not. I slowly walked out of the banquet hall with tears on my face, I regretted listening to Jude by coming to this banquet. I heard Lady Wilson calling me to wait. ************************ “I am sorry about what happened there earlier.” Lady Wilson said as she hugged me. “I am sure he didn't mean them.’ She added. I sniffled and I held her tight feeling comforted. She slightly removed her arm and continued “ Are you going home already? Lady Wilson asked. The banquet is not over” she said. I smiled a bit and brought out the multivitamins and Chinese tea I bought giving it to her. “ Happy Birthday Lady Wilson''. I said. She collected it with a warm smile on her face. “ You can't leave yet, there is someone I want to introduce to you,” she said holding my hand Now I understand why she invited me. Lady Wilson and her tricks. ************************ “ This is Mike, the son of the speaker of the state house.” Lady Wilson said and she walked toward her friends. I stood as I watched her walk away. I wondered why she asked about Jude if she was going to do this. “Nice to meet you.” Mike, who was standing in front of me, said, stretching his hand for a handshake. “ I'm married!” I answered by showing off the ring on my finger. He chucked and continued “Let's change that thing in your finger into a diamond”. He said. I became so angry, how can a man be so rude? I looked at him from head to toe and walked out **************************** I walked inside the house, the whole place looked scattered. I wondered what happened and why it was a mess. I couldn't find Jude, I tried to call him but it wasn't ringing, maybe his phone battery was dead. I assumed. I called his name out moving toward the kitchen “Jude” I didn't get any response, and now I am getting worried. I walked toward our bedroom to check if he was sleeping, and my jaw dropped at what I saw. Jude was with another woman in our matrimonial bed. I screamed his name out loud. “Jude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” The lady with him jumped up from the bed and ran out of the room with her clothes in her hands. I struggled to move my leg forward, my whole body became weak, and my eyes became red. I couldn't believe what was happening, I pitched my cheek to see if I was dreaming but that was my reality. I tried to speak but my heart was weak, and my voice was cracking. I managed to push the word out of my mouth. “ How- could - you” “ How - could - you do this to me” “Is this what I get after four years? “ Four years of loving you and this is how you repay me”. I asked. Jude looked me face to face with no remorse on his face and answered “What is it, every time you act like you are the only one sacrificing for this marriage? “ I'm tired, I’m tired of this b*****e called marriage. He answered I slowly bent on my knees as I hit my chest with my hand. I could feel the pain inside my heart, water was dropping out of my eyes. “ Jude I left my family for you”, I said “ I left everything to be with you”. I added. “ I never asked you to do that but since you claim you did that for me, I would like you to go back to them. He explained and continued. “ This is our divorce paper, Sign it!!”
