Chapter 4 - Broken Bonds

2014 Words
It's August 6th and Peter's wakes up in jail. 'It was a breezy night, last night, wasn't it?' An inmate responds when he asks a rather crazy question - 'where am i?' 'The Precinct.... i'm Tony' He recollects the events from the night before. It was 10:15 and he was getting up to leave, but then he noticed a blonde big guy harassing a lady in front of her boyfriend or man, she somehow reminded him of Mary. He wasn't sure but he interrupted the hostile takeover and gave the bully a nice knick, only to discover that the bully was not alone and they do not take disrespect from Peter, especially when he's alone. The inmate however, saw it all happen and joined the fight, helping Peter. The bullies got angry and picked up weapons with their leader, who did the harassing pointed a gun at Peter. The bully motions his boys to frisk Peter and tony, but that doesn't deter them from beating them all up, till the bully himself takes a punch and decides to shoot Peter. The police arrive just in time to scare him off, but on seeing Peter there, they take him and Tony in for questioning. Obi got there eventually, just in time to watch the police take Peter to jail. The couple he was protecting? They ran. No cover story, no motive aside drunken men breaking bottles and hitting each other. Obi stalked the station but couldn't get in. He wasn't allowed to intervene with the police, for any reason even if Peter was in there. So, he went over to Mary's place at past 4 and knocks. She opens the door, with a gun in hand and a sleepy eye but doesn't let him in. He hands her an envelope with cash in it - 'Peter needs you.... He was taken to the police from the place you sent him to yesterday'. She looked unbothered and left his arm of cash to stretch. 'Please, only you can bail him out without this escalating.... Take the cash'. She takes it - 'Do you know why they took him?' 'He got into a fight with some hood rats at the bar, from what I gathered' She shuts the door on him but Obi knows the look on her face when he told her Peter was in jail. It was the same as the one someone special to him had when he almost died in the drug game, bleeding uncontrollably and fighting for his life. She was probably all Obi wanted to live for. Her eyes we're full of despair. The same feeling he'd had for months when she was killed, protecting him from this life. 'Peter' - That's all Mary can think of as she leaves for the Precinct at past 8 in the morning and gets Peter out shortly after formalities at the office. Leiland's not in, yet. He and Toney get fined for property damage and are allowed to go. 'Hey Bro... You got a 20,I swear I had bus fare but now I'm empty' 'Have this' - Peter hands him a hundred bucks. 'Nice meeting you Tony, maybe next time on better circumstances'. 'Much appreciated... Sorry I didn't get your name though?' 'I'm Peter' 'Alright Peter, here's my card... I'm a professional barber... not on the card though, but I hoop with my guys at the basketball court a corner from the bar we fought, at midnight... Most nights, maybe you should come feel it out'. 'Thanks for the invite', Peter takes the card and Tony leaves first. Mary, who's been silent the whole time, escorts him out, intent on keeping it that way. 'I guess you're still mad about the shipment', he asked, trying to strike up a conversation. 'Yes Peter, it's called betrayal and you deserve to pay for the crimes you've committed' 'My crime as it is, is falling for you', he rizzes her. 'Shut up', she feigns irritance. Would things have been different if we'd met under better conditions? - She thinks to herself. Obi's just around the corner, waiting for them. Peter thanks Mary and attempts to get another date with her. Knowing that she's been spotted with Peter atleast once, she agrees to the date to avoid looking nonchalant to her superiors about his case. She doesn't know John's dead. Peter leaves her at the precinct. Leiland shows up. 'Mary.... Come to my office, NOW!', She yells authoritatively, slightly disgusted. Mary enters her office -You called? 'John's dead' 'Ohhh... ', she sounded disappointed. 'I know about the tracker, explain yourself', Leiland pushes. 'I'm sorry, that was careless of me?' 'Careless?.... Explain to me lieutenant Mary, how a Druglord gets to have a tracker on you when you're supposed to be spying on him for months and you don't know, but a colleague sees your room once and fishes it out immediately', Leiland was almost sure Mary was lying. 'I'm sorry ma'am, please forgive my carelessness' 'Courtesy don't get you outta this damn tight spot, I need you to give me Peter and his whole organization in a week, or it's you're ass getting locked up for this havoc'. 'Okay ma'am.... I won't fail you', Mary says as leaves Leiland's office. 'El Mano.... I should keep an eye out for El Durango' - She sighs as she calls forensics for John's ballistics report. The file for John's death conditions is sent to her in an hour and she goes through it. 'Stab to the neck, leading to excessive blood loss.... He died unable to call for help or defend himself, all for a matter that doesn't concern him'. She calls in Sabrina. Sabrina arrives her office. 'Good day, ma'am' 'Sabrina, John's dead... It was a neck stab from his rear, outside my house last night' 'Ohh my.... ' 'I want you to look up someone for me, he's most likely the killer' She hands Sabrina her work file from the mission at Mexico where she met Eddie. 'Check all the cartel dealers involved in the case and cross reference their ID across the airport flight reports from the last 2weeks.... Find out how many of them have been to or are still in Detroit... I need answers NOW!' 'Okay ma'am.... On it', Sabrina leaves. Peter arrives home with Obi. 'Honey, i'm home', he yells into space, as he enters the living room. 'Oh s**t', Eddie says as he hears Peter's voice in the living room, Grace on top of him and him struggling to pull out. 'Peter's here.... I want him to see, he shouldn't be the only one allowed to screw around', Grace says as she continues riding him. 'Grace, he'll kill me .... ohh my', Eddie bends her over from off him and drills into her non stop for the next two minutes, rupturing her eggs until he's done. Then he pulls out. Grace adjusts her night gown and heads downstairs to the living room. She's been upstairs with Eddie since the kids left for school and now it is past ten in the morning. She doesn't find Peter though. She heads out to her room to shower and finds her husband in the shower already. She doesn't join him tough, but strikes a conversation from outside the bathroom. 'Babe, you're home... What happened?' 'I was locked up', Peter said, rather irritated. 'The feds?' 'No... I got into a fight at the bar' 'Your bar?' 'No, Grace Harris McJones', he tones up as he leaves the shower to meet her. She moves close to him. He's all wet, naked and wouldn't mind a good dicking. He feels her, his hands over her body. Only to feel sticky liquid up in her ass hole. For some reason, he maintains his cool and leaves touching her. 'How was your night?' 'Well.... You we're not here. Always heading out to work, galleries, bars and his', she accused him. 'You know me Grace.... Do I know you though?' 'What's that supposed to mean?' 'You're wet... Who else was here?' 'My husband's naked right in front of me and i'm wet, what a surprise!', she humors him. He goes over to her and grabs her from the rear. He caresses her, licking her ears, taking his hands over all the parts of her body, but terminates at the v****a. -'Everything about you, everything I feel, all the edges I touch makes me wonder, what I was thinking when I married you'. He leaves her shocked beyond words. She excuses him and goes to the dining table to cut fruits. 10 minutes later, he's out in the living room, bidding her goodbye and she says; 'Take that back', with all the gloom of hell on her face. 'What?', Peter said unsuspecting. 'Take back what you said about me disgusting you', she says clenching the table knife in her hand and walking over to him. He moves over to her, sure she was harmless even now - 'You know, i've been out for over twelve hours and the house has been messy, just the way I left i.... and you call yourself a dutiful wife, Grace' He holds her, hugging her and kisses her forehead dotingly, but this time, with the knife in his hand - 'You can run away with your lover for all I care and the world won't even remember you existed'. With all the rage she can muster, she pushes him off her and cusses him out for being unfaithful. Peter leaves for the gallery. Eddie leaves soon after, peter watches him from far off. He hadn't left as he led her to believe and he knew screwing with his own wasn't past Eddie. 'Eddie will not leave Detroit alive.... Make sure of it'. 'Ok Peter', Obi replies Peter. After dropping Peter off, Obi tails Eddie through town, till evening, past 8pm at Leiland's house. Leiland's home, expecting Eddie. Her apartment is a 3 bedroom bungalow in a nice, fairly peaceful neighborhood in Detroit. Not too many gangsters and not enough to want to mess around Leiland Star. Obi watches from his car parked across the street as Eddie walks up the house and then leaves the car to follow him on foot. Eddie opens the door without knocking, sure that Leiland is at home. Sure enough, Leiland's home, with a pistol in her hand, sitting in the living room, watching Eddie open the door to her house without even knocking. 'Eddie.... What a surprise?' 'Yes Dalia.... Or should I say, Leiland?' 'How long has it been? 4, 5 years and you still bear a grudge?' 'Ohh puta.... You killed my brother, an innocent man out of spite for me! I will make your death painful' 'Let's calm down, i'm the one pointing the gun.... Sit down' 'Sit in hell!' He shouts as he points his gun at her, only to receive a bullet in the head. He fires the gun regardless and hits Leiland in her hand. 'Oh Eddie'.... She sits back on her chair recollecting the good old days back at the Mexican cartel when she was serving drinks and poisoning men to climb up the ladder at the Mexican cartel. None of it would have been possible without El Durango. She talks to his corpse; 'Do you remember when we first met? That night at the bar, where you shot someone for me and I took the gun from you to keep your life and yet you got me to kill all those bastards at the cartel with you.... Did you remember or have you forgotten, the night I asked what it would take for us to start life afresh in some town in Greenland or anywhere, away from the drugs and violence?.... You said you will walk the ends of the earth with me.... All because of your greed and selfishness.... We could've been more... Happy'. Leiland Star confesses amidst tears and bleeding. A neighbor calls the Police and the ambulance whisks her away to tame the bleeding. Obi leaves for the Gallery. Peter needs him.
