Chapter 7
The next morning, I arrive in the area around my new workplace almost an hour early. I set all five of the alarms on my mobile for well in advance because I was worried about going wrong on the Underground, getting confused and not being able to find the building, coming up against a public transport strike, or running into a fatal Great Flood.
I think I’m the only woman around wearing heels. The women here go to work in suits, but they wear super-comfortable trainers which they then change out of when they arrive at the office. Starting tomorrow, I’ll have to do that too: after an hour on the Tube and lengthy walks underground to change between the various lines, my feet are already hurting.
