Episode 10 – “The Calm Before the Break”
The silence after Grandmother left…
was heavier than before.
Not peaceful.
Not safe.
Just… uncertain.
---
Michelle stood still in the middle of the room, her eyes fixed on the space where Grandmother had walked out.
Her words kept replaying in her head.
You are not a weapon.
And you are not a machine.
Michelle whispered softly,
“…Then what am I in all of this?”
No one answered.
Because even Alexander didn’t have that answer yet.
---
Alexander stood near the window, his back to her.
For once, he wasn’t moving.
Not issuing orders.
Not destroying anything.
Just thinking.
That alone was dangerous.
Because men like him didn’t pause unless something was changing inside them.
Michelle noticed.
“…You’re quiet,” she said carefully.
Alexander didn’t turn.
“I’m always quiet.”
“That’s not true,” she replied softly. “You’re just usually… in control.”
A pause.
That word hit differently.
Control.
Alexander finally turned his head slightly.
“You think I lost it?”
Michelle hesitated.
“…I think something is changing.”
Silence.
---
Downstairs – Lian
Lian stood in the hallway, hand still near his side.
Alert.
Watching.
Something about the mansion didn’t feel normal anymore.
Security was tighter.
But tension was tighter too.
Daniel walked past him quickly.
“Boss wants all exits locked,” Daniel said.
Lian frowned.
“For what?”
Daniel stopped briefly.
“…Because something is coming.”
Then he walked away.
Leaving Lian standing alone.
---
Upstairs – Michelle & Alexander
Michelle slowly sat down again.
Her energy was draining.
Not from sleep.
From everything happening too fast.
Alexander stepped closer this time… but not too close.
Controlled distance.
Still dangerous.
“You should rest,” he said.
Michelle gave a faint, tired laugh.
“Rest?”
She looked at him.
“How do you rest in a place like this?”
Silence.
Alexander didn’t answer immediately.
Then quietly—
“You leave.”
That made her look up sharply.
“…What?”
Alexander’s expression didn’t change.
“You leave this house. This world.”
Michelle froze.
“And go where exactly?”
Alexander looked at her for a long moment.
Then said calmly—
“Anywhere I’m not.”
That silence after his words…
was louder than anything before it.
---
Michelle’s Realization
Her voice dropped.
“…You’re pushing me away.”
Alexander didn’t deny it.
That was the answer.
Michelle stood slowly.
“After everything… after everything happening… now you want me gone?”
Her voice shook slightly.
“Why?”
Alexander finally looked at her fully.
And for the first time—
there was something unreadable in his eyes.
Not cold.
Not angry.
Something restrained.
Dangerously restrained.
“…Because if you stay,” he said slowly,
“…you become part of the war permanently.”
Michelle’s breath caught.
“And if I leave?”
Alexander paused.
Then quietly—
“You survive.”
---
The Door Opens
Before she could respond—
The door opened suddenly.
Daniel stepped in urgently.
“Sir—security breach detected again.”
Alexander’s expression hardened instantly.
Michelle stepped back.
“Again?”
Daniel nodded.
“But this time… it’s not external.”
Silence.
Lian entered behind him, already tense.
“…Internal?” he asked.
Daniel looked at Alexander.
“Yes.”
A pause.
“…Someone inside this mansion is working with Fuan’s remnants.”
The room went still.
Michelle’s stomach dropped.
“No…” she whispered.
Alexander didn’t react immediately.
But the air around him changed instantly.
Cold again.
Deadly again.
“…Interesting,” he said quietly.
Lian looked around slowly.
“So we have a traitor inside?”
Alexander’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“Yes.”
A pause.
“And I will find them.”
---
Final Moment
Michelle stood frozen in place.
For the first time…
she didn’t know where safety was anymore.
Not outside.
Not inside.
Not even near him.
Because now—
the war wasn’t just outside the mansion.
It was inside it.
And someone in this house…
was already planning the next strike.
Alexander looked at Michelle one last time.
“…Stay in your room,” he ordered quietly.
But this time—
it didn’t sound like protection.
It sounded like containment.
And Michelle understood something clearly now.
This world didn’t let people choose sides.
It forced them into them.
