Day 1
When I opened my eyes again, it was like I could see everything, like it was day. The trees around me didn’t look like I remembered. I started to panic. Turning around real quick I went to look at my tree. It was my willow. I must still be in my woods.
“Maybe it’s just because it's dark” I whispered to my tree, turning around and trying to make my way back.
I walked over to the edge of the clearing, looking back once at my tree before looking where the path should have been. I close my eyes trying to hear the sound of the brook, knowing if I find it I can just follow it back down. I didn’t hear it. My heart sinks into my chest and I start to panic. Taking a deep breath, I remind myself these are my woods. I’ve been in them over a thousand times. I can find my way home. I opened my eyes again and looked in the direction my home should be in. I do not see it. No lights in the distance, nothing but the trees. Turning round and round, I saw no lights. No house. Taking one more deep breath, I walked in the direction I believed my home to be.
As I walked I tripped, and went tumbling down a hill. I don’t remember having this steep of a hill where I lived. Every tree and rock that I tumbled into did nothing to slow me down. I started to pick up speed, trying to stop myself. I tried grabbing onto a tree. That was a bad idea. The moment I did, I heard a snap and pain seared in my hand as it hit the tree I wanted to grab. I tucked my hand in close to me trying to avoid further injury as I tumbled down this hill. What seemed like forever, I finally stopped.
When I dare to try and sit up, I see what looks like a path of some kind, that looks a lot like a dear trail. There is also a small stream with a mini waterfall. With it still being night, I decided the best thing to do is find a place to curl up for some sleep till morning. I stand up being extra careful not to use my injured hand. While turning around to find a good spot, I noticed an overturned tree, its roots creating a perfect shelter for me to crawl into. I curl up in the overhang that the fallen tree has created. As I go to close my eyes, a sweet scent fills my nose, luling me to sleep.
