Flying

"I'm flying, I'm flying!" I shouted as I sat upon Aaroxx with my hands out the sky. "You are barely even hovering," J deadpanned. "I think this is enough," I spoke getting off Aaroxx. "Let's go through a scenario," J spoke, "we are in a battle but the opposition is coming in too heavy so you need to be in the air but guess what?" "What?" I asked invested. "Since you were too scared to train when Jaluron told you too  you die in the end," he said finishing up his scenario. "Fine, I'll try," I mumbled. "Are you serious this time?" J asked. "Yes I'm serious this time," I responded. "Good," he said with a large grin, "now the horns that stop in the middle back that's what you'll be using to hold on." "Okay," I spoke slowly wrapping my hands around the horn. "Then you clamp your legs together that will hold you in better, but when you get used to riding you don't have to do that," he explained. I clamped my legs onto the side of Aaroxx and I felt as if my thighs were going to break through Aaroxx's scales. "It'll be fine, It'll be fine," I reassured myself, "it'll be fine right?" "Of course," he spoke calmly, "now go Aaroxx before she changes her mind." Before I could even protest, Aaroxx wings flapped and next thing I knew I was in the air. I closed my eyes so tight I could feel them hurt, I could hear myself screaming for a good minute, but when I realized I wasn't dying or falling I stopped and opened my eyes. The wind made my brunette hair fly all over my face making it hard to see the view in front of me, I gripped the horn with one hand and quickly moved the hair out my face and as soon as I did that I put my hand back and luckily I was not disappointed with the view I got. White clouds surrounded us, but there were other dragons up here too not with riders but they were free. They looked as if they were competing to see who could do the best tricks for the girls who I assumed were the ones who were huddled together looking at them. The clouds were coming together which only left a slight ray of sunshine shining on the mystical creatures and honestly it looked so beautiful, there was even a rainbow that went  over the dragons. Can I live up here? The answer to my questions was answered when Aaroxx dove back out of the cloud sanctuary, as I call it, and all I could see was the forest and the lake. We were heading to the ground fast but for some reason I felt extremely calm which confused me since I was so worried of flying thinking I was gonna die and know it looked like I was about to die.  As we were about to collide with the lake he turned sideways making his wing glide through the water and since we were close enough I put my hand into the water too with a big smile on my face. Aaroxx landed back where we had taken off and as soon as his feet hit the ground I jumped of his back stumbling a bit since he wasn't bending down enough. "That was so fun!" I said excitement laced in my voice. "How do you humans say it?" he asked himself, "I told you so?" "Yeah, that's what we say," I assured, "how do you know that?" "When I found out you were human I decided to study some of your language and sayings," he explained. "That make sense," I said nodding my head. "Let's get back, the King will be excited that you and Aaroxx got along," he spoke. "Are we going to ride back?" I asked excited. "If Aaroxx will let me," he spoke unsure. I looked to Aaroxx giving him pouty look and he let a hot breath out of his nostrils, but he looked irritated. "Why does he look like that?" I questioned because there was no way I was gonna get on a bad side of a dragon.  "When a dragon finds its rider they don't want to share you with another dragon and they don't want to be shared with anyone else since it's seen as a sign of disloyalty," he explained. "But it'll be fine right?" I asked turning around to ;look at Aaroxx, "it'll be only one time." As I rubbed the side of his face and looked into his eyes it felt as I was being connected to him and as if I could hear him saying yes in my head but I used the breath he let out of his nose as an indication. "See it'll be fine," I said turning back to J. Aaroxx bent to the ground and I helped J up since he couldn't get up by himself. He's so short, it's adorable. As we flew through the sky I looked down on the forests but saw something strange, it was as if some parts of the forest was darker than the rest and as we flew above it seemed as if the darkness was crawling forward. I decided to ask J about that when we had landed but I figured it had something to do with the Queen not here. Aaroxx landed in front of the large golden gate that separated normal civilians from royalty, I jumped of his back and drew my hand along his sides as a thank you. When we approached the gates it open after the guards saw that I was the 'chosen one', Aaroxx trailed behind us looking around the gardens and the large sculptures.  "J what's happening to the forests?" I asked as we walked down the long driveway. "This place runs off emotions and now with the Queen gone it's sad and miserable, by killing all the plants it makes its emotions known," he explained. "How does it know the Queens gone?" I questioned as we entered through the gold and white double doors that led to a hallway. "The Queen is connected Synovia, she always made time for rituals which would honor the provisions the island has made," he answered as we walked down the hallway, "know that she's off Synovia the island knows because she doesn't do her rituals." "Can't someone do the rituals for her?" I questioned. "We tried but the island is very smart meaning it knows the fake from the real," he stopped at the large double doors that led to the throne room.  "Is he allowed to be in here?" I asked as I turned and looked at Aaroxx who was following us. "I'm sure we could make exceptions for the chosen one," he joked with a smile on his face, but as soon as I opened the door the scene before s made the smile fall from his face. The king was surrounded by doctors as he sat slumped in his throne, J rushed to meet his ruler worry clear on his face. "How are you?" J asked his highness. "Like I'm about to die," he spoke, "I need her." "We'll get her Sir," J assured. "No! We need to move now!" the king exclaimed, "we have the chosen one so what are we waiting for?" "She isn't ready," argued a familiar voice. Pretty eyes? "We'll never be ready, so let's just take the chance," the king ordered. "Sir think about your decision," J said wanting to make sure the king knew what he wanted. "The island is dying and if I don't get her back I die," the king spoke softly as he settled back in his throne. "We're going to war," he spoke firmly
