"No! This is impossible!" Isabella couldn't accept it. She lunged at the bank teller, grabbing his collar. "You're an actor she hired, right? Have you been colluding with Aurelia to fool me? I'll pay you double. Expose her trick now!"
"Ma'am, please let go, or I'll call security."
"Double isn't enough? I'll pay triple! Expose her! She's a shameless nobody with no money at all, and she even has a bastard son! She can't possibly have a billion dollars, let alone a Supreme Black Card!"
Isabella's outburst forced the bank teller to call security, who rushed over and restrained her.
"Enough! This is the largest bank in the world, and I'm a legitimate employee with an ID badge. If you continue to slander me, I'll sue you for defamation!"
Andrew, the real estate agent, couldn't help but interject, "You don't believe him, but you should believe me. Your house was sold by my apprentice. The money's all paid. How could it be fake?"
Isabella's face turned even darker.
She knew Andrew well. Even if the bank teller could act, Andrew wouldn't lie. If he did, it would only ruin his reputation of the best agent in Tribeca.
So, Aurelia really had the money to buy the most luxurious villa in Tribeca?
How was this possible? Isabella had taken everything from Aurelia three years ago. She got her house, her company, and even took her life!
How did Aurelia manage to bounce back so quickly?
As Isabella stood there in shock, she felt hostile glares from all directions.
The wealthy ladies she had brought were furious!
They had believed Isabella's words and thought that Aurelia was just a poor single mom. As a result, they had mocked her repeatedly. But it turned out that Aurelia was super rich and even had a Supreme Black Card!
But now, they had offended such a bigshot from head to toe.
The ladies seethed with anger, putting all the blame on Isabella. What a fool! If it weren't for her misleading them, they might befriend this wealthy woman and even get her support.
Isabella's villa was the worst in Tribeca, so she always lacked confidence among the wealthy ladies. She had struggled hard to become a part of their circle, but now they were all furious because of her behavior. Desperate, Isabella tried to salvage her reputation. "Don't be fooled! Even if she has money, she's not worth associating with. She's offended Mr. Chesterfield!"
She continued, "I saw it myself! She defied Mr. Chesterfield at the airport and was taken away for punishment. She was just released!"
The mention of Chandler silenced the room. Everyone held their breath in fear, not daring to make a sound.
In the United States, there was only one Chesterfield family. They were the most powerful house in the country. And their current head was Chandler, whose mere name was enough to instill fear.
The ladies exchanged uneasy glances.
If this newcomer had indeed offended Chandler, she wasn't worth befriending.
After all, that formidable man was in control of basically everything, and his influence was worldwide. So what if she had the Supreme Black Card? If she had offended Chandler, she would only die a miserable death.
Noticing their silence, Isabella felt triumphant, ready to discredit Aurelia further. But then, a handsome man in a white coat approached.
He walked up to Aurelia, handing her a business card. "Hello, are you Ms. Aurelia Dotton? I'm Gary Hall, an assistant to Mr. Timbers. Mr. Timbers is very interested in you and would like to invite you to work at Imperial Hospital, a property of the Timbers family. Are you interested?"
Everyone was stunned again!
The Timbers family was one of the Four Great Families, and Samuel was a close friend of Chandler. If Samuel was inviting Aurelia to work at his hospital, it proved she hadn't offended Chandler at all.
Everything Isabella said was a lie!
The wealthy ladies were even more furious at Isabella, looking at her as if hoping their gazes could cut her into pieces.
Isabella felt as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped on her, her face turning from ashen to white.
How had Aurelia not only bounced back but also managed to connect with the Timbers family?
Isabella had tried so hard but never succeeded in associating with any of the Four Great Families. How had Aurelia managed it so quickly?
Why?!
Isabella's face contorted in rage.
Aurelia smiled sweetly, waving the signed agreement at Isabella. "You lost the bet. Remember to bring the keys and property deed of Dotton Manor to my new home. Now, I need to visit Imperial Hospital with Mr. Hall. See you around!"
With everyone watching in shock, Aurelia and her son left gracefully.
The Imperial Hospital was a joint venture of world renown. With the Timbers family's support, it became even more famous. Many top medical graduates dreamed of working there but couldn't get in.
Yet Samuel had personally sent someone to invite Aurelia!
She keenly felt that this wasn't just a simple offer.
As she learned about the job, Aurelia found it hard to believe. "A neurosurgeon? There must be a mistake. I'm a cardiologist. I specialize in heart conditions, not the brain."
"There's no mistake," Gary replied. "Our cardiology department is full. We need neurosurgeons. With your background from Oxford, you'll pick it up quickly during your internship. Don't worry; even interns can get decent salaries. Our salary and benefits are the best in New York. You won't regret joining us!"
The more he talked, the more Aurelia felt like he was a shady recruiter.
But this job was indeed a rare opportunity. The Timbers family's influence in the medical field was immense. If she could get to know some of them, it could greatly help her reclaim the Mitchell Group, which Isabella and Leon had taken from her!
"I'll think about it."
Just as she was about to leave, she looked up and saw a familiar figure.
Why is he here?!
Chandler stood across from her, impeccably dressed, his blue eyes deep and cold like a snowy night, serene yet distant.
He had also noticed her, a slight smile playing on his thin lips.
The man's tall body cast some dark shadows on her, making the atmosphere even more tense.
Upon seeing Chandler, Aurelia immediately tensed.
"I didn't realize you were not only an Oxford alum but also skilled at picking locks," Chandler said as he strolled over, his legs long and straight. Though he seemed rather casual, his presence was enough to overshadow the most dazzling male models on the runway. "I have to admit that I'm impressed."
Last night, he had watched the surveillance footage of Aurelia deftly picking the lock with a hairpin.
Her technique was swift and precise, something he wouldn't expect from a lady of high society.
Amazed, he began to wonder just who this woman really was.
"You flatter me," Aurelia responded leisurely, though her eyes were sharp and clear. "You're quite adept at kidnapping and tracking yourself."
She didn't use any foul language, but her words cut deep.
It seemed she got quite a sharp tongue.
Chandler smiled slightly. It was quite weird, actually. If anyone else had dared to mock Chandler, they'd likely have a tombstone by now. But when Aurelia did it, Chandler found her intriguing.
"If I truly intended to kidnap you, do you think you'd still be standing here?" His eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint in his dark gaze.
Aurelia pressed her lips together. Then, she looked up at him, her enchanting eyes now filled with a rare fierceness. "What do you want?"
"Mr. Timbers' sudden offer for me to join Imperial Hospital was your doing, wasn't it?" She raised an eyebrow, her expression disdainful. "What's this? Your threats don't work, and now you wanna try temptation?"
Aurelia continued, "Save your breath. Whether by threats or temptation, I won't reveal Dr. Jotherin's whereabouts—"
Before she could finish, Chandler suddenly stepped forward.
The distance between them closed abruptly, her nose almost touching his chest.
Aurelia tensed, ready for a fight. But instead, he caught a strand of her hair.
"Don't assume the worst of me," he whispered in her ear, his breath warm against her neck, creating an intimate atmosphere.
Aurelia was stunned by the sudden action of the man opposite her, and couldn't help but take the opportunity to continue the conversation, her eyes rolling, "I didn't expect that you would...seduce me?" After saying that, her hands gently stroked the man's chest...
