Despite the pain and lack of sleep, I decided to go out and get some fresh air. I put on a t-shirt, jogging pants, and a bonnet. As I stepped out, I also wore a facemask since I was coughing due to a cold. On my walk, I passed by a convenience store and bought some soft drinks before continuing to stroll around. Cough Cough Cough I involuntarily covered my mouth as I heard some commotion, metal clanging, and other noises coming from a dim and narrow alley. "What now? What's your plan against us, Smith?" I overheard someone whisper. Smith? I heard another cough. Then, in the moonlight, I saw a familiar face—it was Raven. I can't be mistaken. My forehead creased, and I dropped my coke in a can, causing a loud noise. "Who's that?" I stepped back as they all came out of the alley, and now I could clearly see their faces. They were holding metal pipes with traces of blood on them. "A girl..." someone said. I glanced at Raven, who was coughing heavily and seemed to be struggling to breathe. Someone poked me with a metal tube, but I tightly held onto it, preventing him from pulling it away from me. He kicked me, but I blocked his foot. I caught his leg and broke it. I did the same to others, making sure to break their bones. They fought like children, even cheating, but they were still weak. I grabbed two tubes that were dropped by defeated members and used them like swords. This is why I hated fighting with gangsters; there was no thrill. I quickly defeated them all. I stepped on their backs and pressed them to the ground. I broke all their bones one by one. They were no longer a threat. I approached Raven, who had lost consciousness, and checked his pulse. It was weak. I dragged him to an open area. I laid him down and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. I held his chin and pinched his nose before blowing into his mouth, then I pumped his chest. I did it four or five times. cough! cough! I gasped when I heard his heavy breathing, as if he was struggling to breathe. I can taste his blood in my mouth now. I wiped my mouth and saw him looking at me. "Let's treat your wounds," I said. I didn't know why I was doing this. I'm not a saint, but I couldn't bear to do anything when I knew I could help. RAVEN's POV I woke up to find someone staring at me. I opened my eyes. "AAAHHHH!!! Sh*t!" I screamed when I saw a kid looking at me with wide eyes. "Finally, you're awake," he said. I groaned as I felt pain all over my body. "Did you know I had to skip school to watch over you?! You're already grown up, why do I have to take care of you?" He started to get hysterical. He's familiar; he's Maureen's brother. I looked around and realized I was in their apartment. "Where's your sister?" I asked. "She's at school," he said, irritated with me. "Can you eat? I'll reheat the soup for you." he said. I saw everything last night. How Maureen fought against the Dark Zone Gang, how effortlessly she defeated them, and how emotionless she seemed while doing it, as if it was just another ordinary thing for her. And yeah, I felt her lips on mine, and d*mn it! I felt like my face was burning. "Hey! Kuya! I've been talking to you," the kid snapped his fingers near my face. "S-Sorry, what is it?" I asked. "I said, I'll reheat the soup so you can eat. And why are you blushing?" he asked. "Nothing, I-I just suddenly felt the pain from my wounds," I said. "Okay, stay there." He said. He stood up and reheated the soup for me. I sat on the couch and checked my phone. I had some missed calls and messages from Christian. I replied saying I couldn't go to school today because I had something to take care of. I didn't mention that I went alone to confront the Dark Zone gang. I managed to defeat some of them, but they were too many, and my wounds from the previous fight with the Phantom gang weren't fully healed yet. It was all because of Hannah, my ex-girlfriend, who is now the girlfriend of the Dark Zone's leader, Spikes. She agreed to be Spikes' girlfriend to protect him from getting hurt again. "Hey, you can eat now," Raphael, Maureen's brother, said, interrupting my thoughts. I smiled at him and thanked him. "Thank you, bro," I patted his head, and he pouted at me. I secretly smiled, thinking if I should buy chocolates and flowers for Maureen as a thank-you gift. But no, she doesn't seem like someone who would appreciate that kind of gesture. A simple thank you will do, I think. But then again, no... it's not enough. "Are you really okay now, Bro?" I smiled at Raphael, who caught me staring. "I'm just thinking of what I can give your sister as a thank-you gift," I told him. He approached me, holding his chin as if thinking. "Just be nice to her. She may not look very friendly, but she's warm and sweet inside," he said. I was slightly taken aback by what he said. It seemed like he knew about some of the things we'd done to Maureen. Deep down, I knew Raphael was right. Even though we had been mean to her, she was there to help us when we needed it. "Okay then, I will," I replied. I said my goodbyes to Raphael, and for some reason, I found myself smiling as I walked away.
