“Nicole, I’m going to make you the lead reporter on the crime beat,” said Thiago Cruz, the editor of the Miami Post.

I miss him every day,” said Nicole Rodriguez, a thirty-year-old hard-charging journalist who emigrated from Cuba when she was ten years old. Nicole went to the University of Miami and was the top of her class. She then went on to earn her master’s degree from the School of Journalism at Columbia University. She worked for four years at the New York Times and later took a job at the Miami Post, as she wanted to be closer to her family.
