Chapter 1 Slept with the Boss
My boyfriend of several years cheated on me. Heartbroken, I went to a bar to drown my sorrows and, in a drunken stupor, groped a handsome guy's butt. Seeing the handsome guy's stiff and ashen face, I unwittingly threw him a flirtatious wink. The next day, when I woke up in bed, my boss was sleeping beside me. What should I do after drunkenly sleeping with my boss? Urgently waiting for advice online. After waking up, my head was pounding. Fragments of last night's memories flooded my mind, and I belatedly realized I was in an unfamiliar room. My brain froze for a few seconds. Oh no, did I really do something stupid after drinking? I scrambled out of bed in a panic, only to find my clothes were still on. Just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief, I stretched and realized someone was lying next to me, breathing evenly. I stiffly turned my head and saw a face I had just seen a few days ago. "Lily, this is Colvin, the new director of our company's branch. You'll be his assistant from now on." He extended his hand to me with a cold expression, "Hello, Lily. I'll be counting on you in the future." He had an aura that kept people at a distance, like a barrier a million miles wide. And now, this person was sleeping beside me. Not only was he sleeping soundly, but a tuft of hair was sticking up on his head. Oh heavens, can I still run away now? I really wanted to lift the covers and sneak away, but before I could leave the room, Colvin woke up. He looked at me with sleepy eyes, halfway through my escape, and raised an eyebrow. "Lily, are you planning to run after sleeping with me?" "…I wouldn't dare, I wouldn't dare." I awkwardly retraced my steps, standing by the bed like a student being punished. Damn, the oppressive aura of this boss. Colvin spoke helplessly, "About last night..." "Don't worry, Mr. Daniel! I'll pretend last night never happened!" "I wanted to ask if you remember what happened last night." Last night? Last night I was heartbroken, went to my usual bar, and ordered a large Long Island Iced Tea from the bartender, gulping it down. Then, in a daze, I felt someone helping me up. It seemed like a handsome guy. He was talking to the bartender while trying to keep me from sliding down. I gave him a silly grin and slapped his butt. In that moment, the world seemed to go silent. The handsome guy's face turned from blue to red, and I even pretended to flirt with him. His expression seemed to worsen, and he directly carried me out of the bar. The handsome guy's face slowly merged with Colvin's face. Rewinding the memory to this point, my face turned ashen. Colvin hesitated, "As a young lady, you shouldn't go to bars and get so drunk alone. It's not safe." His face changed, and his ears started to turn red. "And don't go around groping people." I felt like fainting. Maybe I should just find a block of tofu to bash my head against. After checking out, Colvin offered me a ride home. "Don't do this again next time, it's really unsafe." In the car, Colvin, like an elder, earnestly repeated this to me ten times. "Okay, Mr. Daniel." I quickly snapped out of my socially mortifying embarrassment and sincerely apologized to him. "I promise I won't get drunk at a bar again, and I won't randomly grope people anymore!" Colvin almost choked.I never expected Colvin, who usually seems so cold, to be such a gentleman, not holding any grudge against my offense. I was moved to tears; I really do have a great boss. When we arrived downstairs at my place, Colvin parked the car and even gentlemanly helped me unbuckle my seatbelt. "Thank you, Mr. Daniel." I opened the car door and got out, only to see someone standing downstairs, and my expression turned cold. Oh great, the jerk's here. Edden was my boyfriend from university. Our relationship was stable, almost to the point of marriage. Until I discovered Edden had cheated with his ex-girlfriend. I was utterly disgusted and immediately moved all my things back to my own place. Edden chased after me, pleading desperately, and even after I slapped him, he continued to follow me, not letting me leave. "Lily, I was wrong, I really was wrong, you have to allow me one mistake! Lily!" "We've been together for so many years, you can't just end it like that, Lily!" I expressionlessly loaded my things into the car, and when he tried to stop me from closing the car door, I mercilessly slammed it shut, catching his hand. He withdrew his hand in pain. It was completely over between us, ended thoroughly. I had been imagining our wedding day, but reality hit me hard. Seeing Edden squatting dejectedly at my doorstep, I spoke with displeasure. "What are you doing here?" Does he not understand plain language? I've already told him we're breaking up for good, so how does he still have the nerve to wait for me downstairs? "Lily, you weren't home last night?" He had dark circles under his eyes, bloodshot eyes, looking pitifully wronged. I glanced at him. "Is it any of your business, Mr. Christopher?" Edden's face turned pale, and the next second he reached for my hand again. "Lily, don't be mad, we've been together for so many years, can you really just let go like that?" I replied calmly, "You're just a cheating piece of trash. What's there to hold onto?" "Lily..." He held onto my hand, not letting me go, and I didn't have the strength to break free. This person is crazy; he cheats and still doesn't allow a breakup! I was so angry my head started to hurt. "What do you want? I want to go home, why are you holding onto me?" "Get back together with me, and I'll let you go." Damn, what a clingy waste of space. Every curse word I've ever known flashed through my mind. "What are you doing?" The pain in my hand disappeared as Colvin grabbed Edden's wrist, looking at him sharply. "Didn't you hear her say she wanted to go home?" Edden, subdued by the tall Colvin, looked at me with some resentment. "Is he your new lover? Is that why you're breaking up with me?!" "Edden, do you think everyone is as shameless as you, enjoying cheating?" I didn't hold back in calling him out. "You just don't know how to explain it to your parents, especially since you're the one who cheated! You don't want to admit to your family that you're a scumbag who can't decide between two options, so you'd rather get back together with me to shut me up." "Too bad, I, Lily, don't deal with second-hand trash." After sending Edden away, Colvin saw my hand was red and swollen from being grabbed, and he led me back to his car. He took a clean towel from the car, soaked it in cold water, and helped me apply it to my fingers. "Thank you, Mr. Daniel." Later, I found out that after I got out of the car, Colvin intended to watch me enter the building before leaving, and that's how he happened to witness Edden pestering me. "Vitality, you've got quite a knack for telling people off," Colvin said, still looking down at my swollen fingers, frowning. "Did you get drunk at the bar because of that man just now?" I couldn't help but notice a hint of annoyance in his voice. I sheepishly shrugged my shoulders, "You could say that. I caught him cheating with his ex-girlfriend, so..." "Such a man isn't worth it." I agreed with a nod, "Mr. Daniel is right, so I moved out of the house immediately!" He finally looked up at me, "You did the right thing. The cleaner the break, the better with someone like that." Why does it feel like there's more to what Colvin's saying? Is it just my imagination? On Monday, I arrived at the office. I organized my things and moved to a new desk, starting my new role as Colvin's assistant. Colvin was a hard worker and handled everything with precision. At first, I struggled to keep up with his work pace, feeling overwhelmed by the mountain of paperwork. Until the sixth time I walked into Colvin's office, he set down his cup and called me over.
