Iris' POV
He exudes sophistication, clad in a finely tailored suit that accentuates his stature. His confident gait and the subtle aroma of a luxurious cologne linger, adding an air of refinement to his presence. His eyes reflect a blend of assurance and charm, while every meticulously groomed detail suggests a man attuned to elegance. I would totally love to dive into those suave eyes but—
No! I can't be distracted. He still hasn't told how he found me.
"That doesn't explain why you're here. In my workplace." I put it quite curtly, so he knows my workplace is off-limits. He got the hint because he raised his hands, and said, "I came here for my nephew, and thought I could meet with you for a while".
"Your nephew, huh... but how did you know I work here?" No matter how I think about it, I can't shake the paranoia off my shoulders.
"I asked around the hospital". He says as a matter of fact.
"What?" Do hospitals give away their patients' information like that to just anyone? There's nothing normal about this man. He has a aura around him, and it's totally not drawing me in!
"Did you think about what I said the last time we met?" He cuts in.
"And, did you hear what I said? The baby's not yours!" I scream at his face. He's making me impatient. And I totally can't keep my cool around him.
"Why are you so adamant on denying it?"
Now, I'm speechless.
This stranger standing before me diaplayed a solemn earnestness I've never seen on anyone before. Every inch of my body has been desperately longing for him. The skeptic in me warns me of the impending heartbreak. This reminds me of the scammer, who almost stole what little I had.
I was in high school then, and desperately wanted to get out of my mother's house. So, I went around looking for ways to make money, when I bumped into this man selling lottery tickets. In my desperate frenzy I bought the lottery ticket. I got a call a while later, they said I had won the lottery. I was delirious and thrilled that I forgot good things don't happen to me. After the ecstatic episode I started thinking, and found it fishy, so I made some calls and found that no such lottery exists. I was almost scammed.
Some people might find it funny, but money is the only connection I share with my mother. As pathetic as it is, I'm stupidly holding onto that string. I say I want to move out; I know I can't keep living this way. But, do I really want to leave my mother? No. I still believe in us, but she never fails to break my heart.
Anything that feels too good to be true ceases to be true.
"Do you realize that I don't even know your name?" I sigh in frustration. I'm done for today, I have no energy left to argue with him.
He looked resigned at this, "My apologies, I went about it the wrong way, it seems".
"It's Damian, Damian Emiliano".
"What?"
"My name". And pulled a card out of his wallet.
I was left flabbergasted with his card in my hands when I heard the principal's voice. He came here with another man whom I didn't recognize. The strange thinge was this place is mostly isolated and the principal has no reason to come here.
"What are you doing here miss Iris?" I thought I was busted but some thing weird happened.
"Mr. Emiliano. It's great to see you here, sir. To what do we owe the pleasure?" The principal called him sir? Did the sun rise in the south? Am I the only one who doesn't know what's going on?
