Sophie thought she'd made her stance clear. But her dad's next move shattered her sense of stability. "Sophie, I have something to tell you," her mom said, tears streaming down her face. "What is it, Mom?" Sophie asked, concern etched on her face. "Your dad filed for divorce and custody of you," her mom revealed. Sophie's world crumbled. "No," she whispered, feeling betrayed. How could her dad do this? Didn't he care about her feelings? But Sophie's anxiety lingered. What would happen next? Would she be forced to live with her dad? Could she trust her mom to fight for her? Sophie's emotions swirled. Fear. Anger. Uncertainty. The court battle ahead would change everything. Would Sophie's voice be heard? Or would she be caught in the crossfire? --- Sophie's mom, Rachel, sat beside her, clutching her hand. "Sophie, I promise I'll do everything to keep you safe," Rachel said, her voice trembling. Sophie nodded, trying to be brave. The courtroom loomed before them, a daunting unknown. Sophie's dad, James, sat across from them, his expression determined. The judge, a stern-looking woman, entered the room. "Case 1234, James vs. Rachel," she announced. The lawyers began their arguments. James's lawyer painted Rachel as an unfit mother. Rachel's lawyer highlighted James's abandonment. Sophie felt like a pawn in their game. The judge turned to Sophie. "Sophie, do you want to say something?" Sophie took a deep breath. "I want to stay with Mom," she said, her voice clear. James's face fell. Rachel smiled, tears in her eyes. The judge nodded. "I'll take your statement into consideration." As the hearing concluded, Sophie felt uncertain. What would the judge decide? Would she be forced to leave her mom? Kelvin waited outside, his eyes filled with concern. "How was it?" he asked. Sophie shook her head. "I don't know," she said. "I just want it to be over." Kelvin hugged her tight. "It will be, Sophie. You're not alone." But Sophie's anxiety lingered. Here's the continuation of Sophie's story: The judge's words echoed through the courtroom. "After careful consideration, I grant James primary custody of Sophie." Sophie's world shattered. "No!" Rachel screamed, tears streaming down her face. Sophie felt like she'd been punched in the gut. How could the judge do this? Didn't she see how much her dad had hurt her? Kelvin's face fell as he grasped Sophie's hand. "I'm so sorry, Sophie," he whispered. James smiled, relief washing over his face. "Thank you, Your Honor," he said. The judge continued, "James will have primary custody, with Rachel receiving supervised visitation rights." Sophie's heart sank. She'd have to leave her mom, her home. Live with the dad who'd abandoned her. Rachel rushed to Sophie, embracing her tightly. "I'll appeal this, Sophie," Rachel vowed. Sophie clung to her mom. "Don't let him take me away," Sophie begged. But the court officers stepped in. "Time to go, Sophie," one said gently. Sophie's eyes locked onto Kelvin's. "I'll never let you go," Kelvin mouthed. As Sophie was led away, her heart broke. Sophie sat in her new bedroom, feeling lost. James had moved her into his new home, a lavish mansion. But the opulence felt hollow. This wasn't home. James knocked on her door. "Sophie, can I come in?" Sophie hesitated. "What?" James entered, followed by a woman Sophie had never seen. "Sophie, this is Victoria," James said. Victoria smiled warmly. "Hi, Sophie. I'm so glad to finally meet you." Sophie's instincts screamed warning. Who was this woman? "Victoria is my partner," James explained. Sophie's eyes widened. "You're already with someone new?" James nodded. "Victoria and I have been together for a while now." Sophie felt betrayed. "You left Mom for her?" James sighed. "Sophie, it's complicated." Victoria stepped forward. "Sophie, sweetie, don't worry. I'm here to help you adjust to your new home." Sophie recoiled. "You're not my mom." Victoria's smile faltered. James intervened. "Sophie, please understand. Victoria cares about you." Sophie shook her head. "I don't want to understand." Kelvin's text arrived, a lifeline. "Hey, how r u?" Sophie typed back. "Miserable. Dad's new gf is here." Kelvin responded. "I'm here for u. Don't forget." Sophie clung to his words. Her only solace in this chaotic new world. Sophie tried to avoid Victoria, but it was impossible. Victoria was everywhere, rearranging Sophie's schedule, dictating her meals. "Victoria, I can take care of myself," Sophie protested. Victoria smiled sweetly. "Oh, Sophie, I just want to help. Your dad wants me to make sure you're comfortable." Sophie rolled her eyes. "My dad just wants to ease his guilt." Victoria's expression faltered. "Sophie, your dad loves you. He wants what's best for you." Sophie snorted. "If he loved me, he wouldn't have left Mom." Victoria's eyes filled with sympathy. "Sophie, I know it's hard, but—" "No, you don't know!" Sophie interrupted. "You don't know what it's like to have your dad abandon you!" Victoria stepped back, tears in her eyes. "Sophie, I'm sorry. I'm trying to help." Sophie stormed off, feeling trapped. Kelvin waited outside, a comforting presence. "Hey, how's it going?" he asked. Sophie shook her head. "Victoria's everywhere. I feel suffocated." Kelvin hugged her tight. "I'm here for you, Sophie. Always." Sophie's phone buzzed. Rachel's name flashed on the screen. "Mom!" Sophie answered, hope rising. "Hey, baby. I have news about the appeal," Rachel said. Sophie's heart skipped a beat. "What is it?" Rachel hesitated. "The judge denied our appeal. But we're not giving up." Sophie's world crumbled. "What do I do, Mom?" Rachel's voice steadied. "We keep fighting, Sophie. Together."
