I think I will be doomed once he holds me. As he stumbled towards me, I took a step back, and he let go of my arm due to his drunken state. I tried to walk as fast as I could to escape from my uncle, who was drunk and grinning at me.
"Please, don't come near me," I begged.
"Shut up!" he shouted, making me stop crying.
I felt nervous as I stood on the cold concrete floor. I had nowhere else to run, and I looked around, hoping for a way out.
I was taken aback when he suddenly slapped me. It hurt a lot! I was so scared and nervous that I couldn't do anything but cry. My aunt and cousin aren't here with me, and for the first time, I find myself wishing they were here, even though they could be cruel to me.
"Undress!" he shouted again in a deep voice. My eyes widened with tears.
"Uncle... Please have mercy—"
He grabbed my arm forcefully. His right hand held a beer bottle while his left hand tightly gripped my arm. I felt scared and thought that he might hurt me.
"Don't..." I whispered, but he suddenly threw the bottle with great force, causing it to shatter loudly.
I sobbed softly especially when he grabbed both of my shoulders and at the same time tore my clothes. He could almost see my chest and I almost lost my courage. I tried to fight, but my strength could not match his strength.
I heard a rustling outside. He stopped tearing my clothes, and I had a chance to escape. However, I had only taken a few steps when he quickly grabbed my hair and threw me down, causing my knee to bleed. I also have bruises on my hands and thighs.
"Uncle...please..."
"Shut up!" he snorted at me again. I lost hope again and cried. He was holding my hair so tightly that it almost felt like it was being torn from my scalp. I closed my eyes in pain.
I felt a sharp object on my thigh. I quickly took it and saw the blood flowing from it again. I secretly took the broken bottle and angrily looked at the uncle who was now sensing the rustling from outside.
I turned that into an opportunity. I buried the broken bottle in his thigh. He quickly cried out in pain. I stood up quickly. I panicked and quickly kicked his manhood.
"You f*****g w***e!!" He screamed and cursed out my name. "You are dead if I catch you, Zeina!"
My tears flowed continuously and immediately ran away from him.
I left my belongings behind and I don't know where else to go. I am not wearing slippers and my clothes are torn. As I wiped the tears from my cheeks, I realized that I didn't care about having things, a house, or anything else. My only wish was to keep my distance from my uncle who was cursing and calling my name.
I ran to the highway as fast as I could, ignoring anyone who saw me. My tears had dried up, but I kept looking around to make sure my uncle was not following me. Suddenly, I heard heavy braking and turned around to see a black car approaching.
I felt my whole body freeze and then everything went...black.
Fear.
Fear gripped me as I fled from my abusive uncle's home. My sisters were miles away, and I was at a loss for what to do next.
I still keep running.
I can still hear my uncle calling me. I'm afraid to look around again, though I can't see him anymore. It was dark, and I could hardly see the road, except when I passed a lamppost. My tears are rolling down my face, and I'm too scared to run. Suddenly, a loud brake sound makes me turn around. A black car was approaching, and I felt my whole body freeze.
And...the surroundings turned pitch black.
I woke up to the sound of rustling beside me. As I slowly opened my eyes, all I could see was the ambient light and the white ceiling above me. I tried to turn to the side, but something was blocking my neck.
"The patient is awake," said a nurse.
I looked towards the sound of the voice and saw the nurse standing there, along with a few medical instruments nearby. I also noticed a lady in the room with me, who appeared to be quite sophisticated with her brown hair and smooth skin. Despite the wrinkles around her eyes, she looked quite elegant.
When the nurse informed everyone that I was awake, the lady immediately turned towards me. I tried to move my hand but couldn't, lifting only a finger. One of my feet was resting on something, causing it to be slightly raised.
"Where am I?" I asked in a hoarse voice. My voice was barely audible, and I struggled to hear it myself. The lady approached me with a worried expression on her face.
"I'm sorry, Mija. Are you hurt?" the woman asked me with concern.
I closed my eyes and felt a sharp pain in my side. Confused, I asked, "Who are you? What happened to me?"
"I'm Heidy Smith. I accidentally bumped into you. Can you tell me who your parents or guardians are so I can contact them?" she replied.
Tears streamed down my face as I replied, "My parents are gone, and I don't have a guardian."
The woman and the nurse exchanged a worried look. Another nurse entered the room and began to examine me. I looked back at the woman and asked, "What happened to me?"
"I'm sorry, dear. You were in an accident, and I accidentally hit you," she explained.
I listened quietly, feeling overwhelmed with fear and sadness. I wished I could have died so that I could be with my parents again.
Once again, tears flowed from my eyes.
"Are your wounds painful? Wait, I'll call the doctor first," she said.
"I don't have anything to pay here. I'm just going to leave," I replied.
"In your situation? Don't worry, mija. It's my fault because I didn't manage to pull the brakes. It's too late," she apologized.
I closed my eyes and tried to move, but she stopped me.
"You were running earlier and you didn't hear my horn. What? Doesn't it hurt you?" she asked, concerned.
"I'm leaving," I repeated.
"You can't! Look at yourself. Besides, don't you have a guardian? Brothers and sisters?"
I shook my head, still scared. She paused for a moment and looked at me.
"I-I have sisters, but they're not here..." I trailed off.
"We'll talk about whatever your problem is later. For now, get better. Don't think about the payment because I'll pay for it myself," she said reassuringly.
I looked at the lady, still confused, but I nodded. The doctor arrived and asked me some questions, which I answered.
During the next few days, Mrs. Heidy visited me before going to work and before heading back home. She was very kind to me and even sent me food and checked up on me frequently. Over the following weeks, I underwent stretching routines and massage therapy to aid in my recovery.
At first, I couldn't walk, but with the help of my therapist, I gradually regained my strength. I also celebrated my eighteenth birthday while in the hospital, and the nurses surprised me with a small celebration. During my stay, I felt like I had a family within the hospital. I spent nearly three months in the hospital and I had a fast recovery.
I honestly don't want to leave because I might see my uncle. I haven't forgotten what happened, and I still have nightmares every night. I miss my sisters so much, and I'm also worried about my future.
