Chapter 5: The Feelings

Raelynn’s POV"So you don't know?" He asked, raising his eyebrow. "Don't know what?" I responded sitting up. "You're a Lycan." I blinked back at him, "A Lycan? That's impossible. I haven't even heard from my wolf in days." "Your wolf is no doubt still recovering from the sudden increase in power." He shrugged. "But it's too clear to be mistaken. My mother is a Lycan, so I know. I'm sure those in my pack would notice but I doubt anyone from your pack even suspected this." My mind was reeling. Lycans were supposed to be extinct. We were taught in school that Lycans were the Moon Goddess’s chosen race. She made them to protect and lead the packs of the world. But humans had hunted most of them to near extinction, then a rogue pack of wolves thought they could get the Lycan’s powers if they killed and ate the Lycan’s heart. It wasn’t true but that didn’t matter to the wolves. They hunted and killed all the Lycan over one hundred years ago. Lycan’s are the stronger and more powerful version of a shifter wolf. Their senses are twice as sharp, their bodies are at least twice as strong and they are granted special powers by the goddess. We call them superpowers; flying, telekinesis, power over the elements, force fields, the power of precognition, and even more. I shook my head. No, it couldn’t be true. “Well you should at least talk to your parents about it, one or both of them will have to be a Lycan for the gene to pass to you.” He was trying to be helpful, but…. “She’s adopted, she doesn’t know anything about her birth parents. And her adopted parents died four years ago. Killed by rogues.” Maya whispered to him. His face filled with shock then sympathy. “I’m sorry to hear that. My deepest sympathies, Raelynn.” “Thank you.” I choked out. I could feel the sorrow I’d buried surfacing again. “I’ll speak with my mother and perhaps you could meet with her and she could talk to you more about it.” He suggested. I nodded and laid my head on the bed. I heard the click-clack of Maya’s shoes and she sat on the bed. “I know you need some time so how about you settle in and we can go to the mixer tonight together.” “There’s a mixer?” I mumble. “Yeah. I mean it’s optional. But who knows, you might find your mate there.” I shook my head, “Na, I think I’ll watch a movie or something. Maybe I’ll take a look at the pamphlet.” She smiled sadly and leaned over and kissed my head, “I’ll come see you later. Promise.” I nodded and I heard her leave. After a few minutes, I got up and went in search of my bag. I found it in Xavier’s room. His room was definitely larger and grander than mine, it also had an adjoined bathroom just for him. And his eventual Luna. “Hey X, are you saving my bag for me?” I asked closing his doors. “Oh sorry Ray.” He sighed, hitting his head with his pamphlet. “I totally forgot to bring it to you.” “It’s fine.” I shrugged and walked over to sit on the edge of his bed with him. “Whatcha doing?” He smiled and pulled me close, “I’m checking out the events and the stuff we’ll be doing at said events.” I leaned over and looked at the pamphlet too. There was a lot to do at the events. He was on the Beach Vacation page with pictures of a preteen beach and houses that were built on water. “What are those?” I asked. “Oh, those are houses that you can stay in if you have a mate. If you’re unmated then you stay at either a beach house or a beach resort hotel.” “Where are you staying?” I was curious if he’d get special treatment there. He smirked, “I’ll get a beach house. Why?” I smiled back at him, “I like the special treatment that follows you around.” He leaned closer, our lips inches apart. “It comes with being with an Alpha.” I froze, I hadn’t meant to give off the impression I was coming onto him. But he was so close I felt my body urge me forward. I didn’t have a mate yet. And I’d had s*x with Alex. Why not Xavier? I jerked back and almost fell off the bed. Xavier grabbed my waist and pulled me onto the bed, his body hovering over me. I felt my breathing quicken and saw the surprise in his eyes too. “I didn’t mean to do this.” He said, staring into my eyes. “Ok.” I breathed. “I’m not complaining though.” He said moving his legs to be between mine. Was I going to complain? I didn’t want to be involved with Xavier but we’d grown closer and I, dare say, I like him now. But was I going to give in here, when my mate could be in the hotel? I thought back to the Luna’s words, ‘I’d just like you to keep your fated mates in mind when you're having your rendezvous.’ I groaned in frustration and pushed him off, “Yeah.” was all I could say. “It’s ok Ray. If you don’t want me I’m not gonna make a big deal.” He said putting his hand on my shoulder. I bit my lip. “But I do.” “What?” he asked, moving my face so he could look into my eyes. My body was all electrified with pent-up s****l tension. I was suddenly very aware of the closed doors and the big bed that I was sitting on with a boy who would jump at the opportunity to do me. “What was that that you said?” He asked, his eyes searching mine. His eyes darkened and lightened. I took a deep breath and leaned a little closer, “I said I do want you.” His eyes lit up and he leaned closer. “But.” I hurried, “I want to be considerate of my mate.” He sighed, his head coming to rest on my shoulder. “My mom’s words right? The whole ‘take their feelings into account’ bull shit.” “It’s not bull shit.” I huffed. “Look. Even if your mate is in the next suite he can’t hold anything against you. You didn’t know him then, so he can’t-” “Yeah I know. But I’m just saying I’d hate to think that right now my mate is getting all hot and bothered with some random girl. Or even if she’s not random.” I stopped him. I felt a sort of hatred bubble up inside me just thinking about it. Another woman touching what’s mine. “I’ve had a thing for you for months now.” He whispered into my neck, placing a small kiss. Not the neck. The base of my neck was a huge turn-on. “And I’ve wanted you even longer.” He whispered moving to kiss the base of my neck again. “X-Xavier.” I said my voice quivering. His hands moved from the bed, up my sides, and rested on the base of my shoulder blades. His lips continued along the base of my neck and up towards my lips. I gave an involuntary shiver and suddenly didn’t give a f**k if my mate was standing in the same room. My body needed this man. I moved swiftly, grabbing his shoulders and straddling Xavier like I was on a horse. I crushed my lips against his and felt a fever flow through my body. I needed him. And from the way he was kissing me back, he needed me. I moved my hands from his shoulders to tangle into his dark hair and I rolled my hips into him. I heard a growl rippling through his chest and I smiled against his lips. We continued to make out and grinding into each other, we were so consumed with our building lust that we didn’t hear the knock or the door opening. “Hey X do you-” Alex stopped mid-sentence when he saw us making out and grinding. I pulled away and buried my head in his neck embarrassed. But my body didn’t seem to be because it gave another clear grind and Xavier’s groan was loud in response. “I was gonna ask if you knew where Ray was but it looks like I didn’t have to worry.” I silently chuckled. Yeah, I was fine. “Well as you can see. She’s just fine.” He said and I felt his hands move to grab my ass. I gasped at his grip. “I see that.” He said, I could tell he was restraining his wolf. “Looks like you got your answer X. Congratulations.” Then he slammed the door. “What was he talking about?” I asked, kissing his neck. “He must have heard me ask if I could be your new f**k buddy on the bus.” I felt my cheeks go red and I laughed, “I guess we do have our answer.” I felt his hand grip my ass harder, “Well I’m primed and ready. Feel free to use me however many times you want.” He leaned over and took my earlobe in between his teeth and pulled lightly. I chuckled and crushed my lips back to his. Callan’s POVI downed one shot after another. What the f**k was wrong with me? I felt an ache in my heart and I didn’t understand it. It could be that I missed the minute that my best friend found his mate. But I missed when he lost his virginity and I didn’t feel upset about that. Finding your mate is something that only the mates can experience. Damn work. If I’d been more productive this morning I could have been there. But no, I’d been to busy wondering if she’d have big boobs or a big butt to concentrate. She was already killing my productivity. I kind of hated her right now. Maybe that was why my chest felt tight, maybe it was because I was having negative feelings towards my other half. “Get me a whiskey.” I told the bartender. I’d seen him before, I came to this club when I came to the Royal Palace so I knew the staff. Maybe it was the 6 shots of tequila. “Callan. What are you doing?” I heard Will call from behind me. I turned around and saw him in just his white button-down and a pair of jeans. He had his arm around a blonde in a pink halter crop top. It hid her boobs that I could tell were full. She was in a pair of short jean shorts that were barely containing her ass. Well, congrats to my best friend. He got both. I turned and grabbed my whiskey when it was sat by me, “I’m not sure.” I could see the concern in both of their eyes. She must be nice to be concerned for me, a guy she doesn’t even know. “What’s wrong man?” Will asked, releasing her and walking over to me. “I don’t know. My chest just feels a bit tight.” I brought my whiskey free hand to grip my heart. “How bad is it?” The girl asked, clearly concerned. “I don’t know.” Will said. “How much have you drank Cal?” I shrugged, “Not enough.” Wolfs had a higher tolerance for alcohol so a shot of whiskey and six shots of tequila was a small amount compared to my tolerance. “This is your fault.” I said nudging Will. “Mine?” He asked, taken aback. “Yeah. If you hadn’t come and made me think about my mate then I would have been fine.” Will rolled his eyes and wrapped his mate in his arms. “I mentioned she’d be here, now it’s up to you to find her.” “What’s going on?” The girl asked. I downed the rest of the drink and stood then bowed, “I’m sorry. This was not the best first impression princess. I’m Alpha Callan, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” She gave a small smile but still seemed concerned, “Nice to meet you, I’m Maya. Are you sure you’re alright?” She took a step closer. I straightened up, “Yes. I’m fine. I think it’s my work getting to me.” “I told you it would.” Will gloats. “Maybe I should go sit down.” I mutter running my hand through my hair. “We could bring you a drink of water.” She offered. I smiled, she was sweet. “That’d be great. Then we can get to know each other better. You are in fact mated to my best friend.” She smiled, “I’d like that. Will speaks highly of you.” I looked between her and Will who was all but glowing with pride in his mate. I wanted that. I nodded and walked towards an empty chair and loveseat. Well, I could always keep an eye out for her.
