Jake watched Alyssa move around the other guests, smiling and talking to people, but the brightness never reached her eyes. She glanced his way a few times, but whenever her eyes collided with his, she looked away.
“Is everything okay?” Lana asked, settling DJ on her lap. She’d just come from inside the inn. Marie offered her bedroom to put DJ down for a nap earlier. Lana was hesitant, but Marie insisted it would be fine. Lana had gone in to check on him and get a tour of the inn from Marie. Jake hoped to have a chance to talk to Alyssa while Lana and Marie were gone, but she avoided him.
Jake shook his head and took a long pull of his beer. “I don’t know.”
Lana nudged him with her shoulder, dragging his attention from Alyssa. “You love her, don’t you?”
