Finding Sunshine

Unpredictable weather

“When was this?” Rain asked, watching her mother walk into the castle.

“About four years ago.” He said softly.

“I was just turning eighteen.” He looked at Rain and before she could ask another question, someone walked into the room.

“Your father has requested your presence.” A soft spoken woman’s voice says. The room spun around to face her direction, it was a different feeling to see the room move instead of walking. It made Rain dizzy. She almost stepped out into the memory but Zarak was quick enough to save her. He brought her close to his chest. “Close your eyes and take a deep breath.” He whispered. “This is too much for you right now. We’re done.” He didn’t want to drain her. She was his queen. He had been waiting for her his whole life.

“No!” Rain yelled “please I need to know. I’m fine.” She looked up at him with her tears ready to make an appearance. “I’m fine.” She tried to sound stable. She even tried to smile. She needed to know what her mother was up to. She knew she had to push through.

Zarak looked into her stormy grey eyes and sighed. “You have to promise that you will tell me when you’ve had enough?” He reluctantly said.

“I promise.” She looked into his eyes and felt her heart tug. She felt the bond between them. Her stomach ache went away instantly and her head felt more normal. How could the universe be so cruel as to mate her with men like him and Chad. What’s the point?

“You ready?” Zarak asked, breaking Rain from her thoughts.

“Yes” she said as she turned facing the woman.

“Royal business” the woman says looking at the both of them as if they were one. Her eyes were watering and she seemed in distress.

*” That’s my mother.” He sent to Rains mind. Sadness seeped into rains body. Her heart ached. She was feeling his feelings. She felt how much he loved and adored his mother. She didn’t want to feel his pain of losing his mother; she already feels her own pain. Rain covered her ears and started to hum.

A moment later the pain stopped. She couldn’t even feel him there. She turned to look at him and was shocked, seeing a tear drop from his eye. “I’m sorry, I lost control of myself and allowed you in.” He apologized. Looking ashamed. “Let’s continue.” He said while straightening up his posture. A look came over his face. He seemed to go cold and his eyes focused on her. Not wanting to make it a thing Rain turned back to face his mother. She had curly light brown hair that she kept up in a tight ponytail. Zarak had his mother’s eyes.

The room began to move. They made their way through a long quiet hallway, down a beautiful stained wood staircase and into a large reading room.

There she was. Standing next to the king. It was so good to see her mother alive again. “She’s been crying.” Rain stated. Her mother stood tall but her eyes tells it all. Rain could see it in her eyes. Her mother was scared.

“This is xara, my lifemate.” The king said introducing Rains mom to Zarak, as the queen sits on the other side of him.

“You will marry her daughter this year.” The king said so mater of fact.

“Does she know?” Zarak whispers, reliving the moment.

The queen is sitting there with tears streaming down her face.

“Mother.” Zarak saying what he said in that moment three years ago. His mother looked at him, and shook her head yes.

“You have to.” The queen softly replied. The king stepped in.

“She was promised to you to take as a wife after eighteen.” He explained.

The kings face got serious “it was a universe contract. It’s unbreakable.” He warned.

Suddenly the door swung open. The house turned to see who walked in.

“Zee” the king greated. “Come sit down son.”

Rain gasps. Everything she thought she knew was a lie. This is turning out to be much more than she ever expected. Her mothers hidden past and now this? Her throat was closing and her heart was hurting from beating so hard. This time she couldn’t hold it in. She closed her eyes tight, turned to zarak and leaned against his chest.

“I’m done. Take me out of here.” She cried. “Please I don’t want to be here”

“Rain, my. Uh. Rain.” Zarak tripped over his words remembering to not call her his queen yet.

Rain opened her eyes and took a deep breath as she looked around. She was back into the world again. Not that she felt any better here. Her life’s been a lie. She looked at zarak and started to sob. He moved in to swoop her up and hold her close, but she put her hands out to stop him.

“You need rest” he said. “We can talk tomorrow if your still here” and he got up to walk away.
