Winter drew near as weeks wound on, and there was an announcement that the first snowstorm would come soon. Still, the work went on at the Hawkins household. Dany and Ben especially noticed a change in Luke, since they worked with him so often, but it wasn’t the good kind. He went to work, did what he had to do, in the way a zombie would. He didn’t talk to either of them, or to his father. He avoided eye contact and slouched, like he was carrying something heavy on his shoulders all the time. How could he talk to them?
