For luch, I'd just taken the sandwich with me and eaten it outside alone. It was a fairly cool day, comfortable out in the sun. I never would have been permitted to eat outside in the open like this at the Oscillius Estate. It was hard not to smile up toward the sun, to enjoy the smell of wildflowers and grass. Kai was nowhere to be found and, when I went back to my cot to find a book consisting of the different anatomies of different species on top of it with a note written in familiar handwriting, I frowned.
