Episode 1
Lenora noticed his countenance had changed; Tyler's eyes flashed with a hint of irritation. She knew him so well, especially since they had been dating for four years.
Tyler looked up, staring in her direction before he snagged his eyes back to his meal. For an odd reason, Lenora felt she had something to do with the way he was behaving.
She flicked her eyes around to see if any of his friends noticed his mood swing, but they were so engrossed in their conversation except for one person who had his gaze locked on her.
Dylan mustered a smile, but Lenora looked away instantly, especially when she knew the danger that may arise if she reciprocated. “I almost forgot, I have something important to do before midnight.” Tyler rose to his feet, his unwavering eyes on Lenora, who was still seated.
“Leaving so soon?” Noah, Tyler's best friend, inquired. Tyler just nodded, scooping his phone off the table.
Lenora rose to her feet, her heart skipping a beat as she trailed after him to their ride. “Take care.” Dylan muttered as they slid inside, and Lenora could swear she heard Tyler let out a low growl before starting the car.
The air turned so thick with tension that Lenora could feel it on her skin. “You're driving too fast.” She whispered when he pressed harder on the gas.
Tyler said nothing, his jaw clenched as he sped forward like a man possessed. Panic rose within her; she screamed for him to slow down, but he wouldn't listen.
Then suddenly he slowed down a bit. “I knew something was going on with you two. Have you been sleeping with him?” He queried in a chilled baritone voice, his grip tightening on the steering wheel.
“What? What are you talking about?” She questioned curiously, her brows furrowing.
“Don't play dumb with me, Nora. I saw the way he looked at you, the way his eyes kept undressing you. That would mean something.” He turned to face her, his amber eyes darkening with rage.
“I don't know who you're talking about—” he hit the steering wheel, making her flinch in fear.
“I am talking about Dylan. Swear to me that you two haven't been seeing each other.” He pressed further, his tone cold and unyielding.
Lenora gasped. “So you think he can have access to me because he asked me out? There is nothing going on between me and Dylan. You know that.” Frustration laced her voice.
“You're still not telling me the truth. What do you take me for, Nora?”
“Can we stop this, please? I don't want you creating all these weird ideas in your head; that won't be healthy for us. Dylan is just a man who confessed his feelings to me, which is normal for every lady. Despite that, I have never for once met him behind closed doors.” She sighed. “You have to believe me.”
“I should have beaten the crap out of him when I could. I got my eyes on you two now.” He shot her a cold, emotionless look.
“Tyler, watch out!” She screamed.
They halted immediately. “What do you think that was? A deer, maybe?” Tyler mumbled, running a hand into his hair. He slowly hopped out of the car, and so did Lenora.
“Oh my God. Oh my God.” She paced frantically. “What have we done?” Her breath hitched, her lips trembling.
There was so much blood on the ground, yet they still couldn't tell what they had hit.
Her heart rate sped up, fear consuming her whole being while she stood there.
Suddenly they heard a movement in the grass.
Lenora rushed towards there but stopped in her tracks; her body shivered. Tyler moved closer, taking a good look at whatever it was. “Holy s**t!” He cursed, running his palm on his face while he stared down at the body of the injured man.
The injured man moved his finger, a clear sign he was still alive. Before Tyler could offer any suggestions, Lenora pulled her phone from her pocket.
“What do you think you are doing?” Tyler snapped, snatching the phone from her hand. “Calling the cops? Don't be so naive.” He yelled in her face. “We will be in serious trouble if the police find out.”
“But the man is still alive. I saw him move; you did too. We need to call the cops and get him to the hospital before he dies.” She whispered, her voice cracking.
“We do no such thing.” He switched off her phone instantly, dragging her over to the car. “The police won't hear our explanation. They might think we did it deliberately, especially when there are no cameras here. All you have to do now is pretend like it never happened.” He held her hand.
“But…”
“No buts, Lenora. We are leaving now.” Even if it was against her wish, she had to get inside the car.
A man passing by happened to hear some distant noise, so he moved closer to the direction and saw when they took off. Rushing to the spot, he found an elderly man lying lifeless on the ground, soaked in his blood.
“Hello, I would like to report a hit-and-run accident. It happened on Maplewood Drive; it was a dark blue sedan, license plate XZ4-92L. I didn't get a clear look at the driver.” The man informed the police, who happened to be on patrol on the same road.
“We should have helped him.” Lenora whimpered, tears welling up in her eyes.
The sound of sirens behind them interrupted what Tyler was about to say. “Did you call them? Why are they behind us?” He panicked.
Before they could get away, a police car pulled up and blocked their path; there was no way they could move now. “I would suggest you turn off your engine and put your hands where I can see them.”
Lenora and Tyler stepped out of the car. Hands raised in the air. “Tell him you were the one driving and I was asleep in the back seat. Just say it. Most men have a soft spot for women.” Tyler whispered.
“But you were the one—”
“Listen to me. I could end up in jail for this. Is that what you want? Would it make you happy to see everything I have built for both of us over the years fall apart? Please, Nora, if you love me, tell them you were the one driving.”
Nora couldn't stop the tears flowing down her cheek; everything was driving her insane.
“Officer, I can explain.” Lenora mumbled, her voice barely audible when he stopped in front of them.
“Do you know why I stopped you tonight? I know what you did.” The officer said firmly, his eyes locked on them.
Lenora averted her eyes to Tyler, who had a pleading look on his face. He shook his head slightly. “I didn't mean to run…”
“So you admit hitting a person and fleeing?” The officer chipped in with a blank expression.
“I…” she paused. Swallowing hard.
“Did you witness what happened?” The officer asked Tyler.
“I had no idea what was going on because I was asleep in the back seat. I only realized what had happened when she suggested we run.” Even though his words made her look like the villain, she stayed silent, unwilling to betray the man she loves.
“Officer, I can explain what happened.” Lenora tried to stop him from placing the handcuffs on her. She was hoping Tyler would say something, but he had his eyes staring keenly at the ground.
“You are being detained on suspicion of a felony. Both of you will follow me to the station. You have the right to remain silent, and anything you say can be used against you in court.”
“Felony?” Lenora trembled, the officer's words echoing in her head like a bullet aimed at her.
