Lyca's gaze remained fixed on Juliet as the guards secured their wrists and ankles with heavy chains.
Rocks were attached to the chains, adding to their burden.
The guards dragged them toward the waterfront, the sound of the waves lapping against the shore contrasting sharply with the looming dread.
Lyca's mind raced, clinging to the hope for a miracle.
Juliet's eyes met Lyca's, a silent understanding passing between them.
No words were necessary; their fate was already determined.
Uncle Shen and Zhenyi stood on the shore, their expressions cold.
"The traitors will meet their end," Uncle Shen proclaimed.
Zhenyi nodded, his eyes shining with satisfaction.
The guards dropped Lyca and Juliet, into the dark waters.
Lyca shut her eyes, feeling the weight of the rocks dragging her down. The guards hurled Lyca and Juliet into the murky waters.
The heavy rocks attached to their chains dragged them down, the water enveloping them completely.
“ Did they sink” Zhenyi asked
“ Do you think they'd float, did I pay your school fees for nothing, “ Uncle shen asked coughing
After a while
Just when it seemed all hope was lost, a fishing hook hooked unto Lyca's chains.
"oh i think i got a shark its so heavy” a fisherman laughed.
"Oh really if its a shark I'd pay 100yen" another fisherman exclaimed. And they all laughed.
“Help him pull it up” captain commanded
Two bodies were pulled out of the water
“What it's not a shark”
“ obviously not”
"It's better to let them go than risk our own safety," a grizzled old sailor said.
"But think of their families, their lives..." a younger fisherman argued.
"Let's consult the captain," someone suggested.
The captain, a weathered man with a bushy beard, leaned over the side of the boat.
"Bring them in!" he shouted.
The fishermen pulled Lyca and Juliet aboard, cutting the chains and rocks away.
The girls lay unconscious, their bodies lifeless.
"Check for signs of life," the captain commanded.
A fisherman felt for a pulse.
"They're alive... just barely," he reported.
The captain nodded.
"Get them below deck. If they can survive would depend on them. If they die throw them back in.
The fishermen gently carried Lyca and Juliet below deck, their fates now intertwined with the crew.
Two days later
“ Alright we dropped you off her its far enough from where you were found as long as you don't go back you should be able to live” captain said
“Thank you” they choruses
As they watched the boat glide away into the waters they exchanged a glance and walked into the village or what ever it looked like it barely had any houses the few houses where made with mud.
“where are we” juilet asked an elderly woman
“jingyan, stowaways aren't you, why did you run from home, this place is cursed.
“We didn't….” lyca said but she was cut short
“ we'd leave soon “ juilet said instead
"Food is hard to come by. You'll need to hunt," she said in a gruff tone.
Lyca's eyes adjusted to the low light, her anxiety mounting.
"What do you mean?" Lyca asked, her voice shaking.
"You'll have to catch something to eat," the woman replied, her face stern.
Juliet's eyes narrowed, she nodded
"We'll manage,"
Lyca glanced at Juliet, “ you know how to”
“ we’d learn or eat worms”
"How far are we from civilization?" Lyca inquired of the woman.
The woman's expression turned icy.
"I don't know," she answered sharply.
Juliet stepped forward.
"We'll hunt. Together."
"Go. Hunt. Or starve."
With that, she left them to face their fate.
Lyca and Juliet exchanged determined looks.
As night fell, the forest morphed into a landscape of hidden threats.
Juliet took the lead, her confident stride guiding Lyca through the shadows.
They didn't catch anything
Juilet skin tone became darker while lyca had a natural tan she cut her hair shorter and her faced no longer had the pure innocence it used to.
‘I have to take father's company back in 3 years”
“10”juilet said
Whatever.
Two weeks later
At dawn, Lyca and Juliet set out from Elkwood Village, eager for a fresh start.
Their mission was to locate a military camp and enlist.
After several hours of walking, they finally spotted a military camp in the distance.
The flag displayed the emblem of the "Blackwood Legion."
As they neared the camp gates, a gruff voice called out to them:
"Halt! State your business."
Lyca stepped forward confidently.
"We're here to enlist."
The guard scrutinized them with a skeptical gaze.
"Names?"
"Lyca and Juliet."
"Age?"
Lyca paused for a moment before responding honestly.
"Twenty one."
“Twenty six”Juliet added in agreement.
The guard handed them a clipboard.
"Fill out the enlistment forms."
Lyca and Juliet exchanged anxious glances.
They had no experience, no skills.
But their determination to start anew was unwavering.
After they completed the forms, they were escorted to a briefing room.
A stern officer addressed the new recruits:
"Welcome to Blackwood Legion. You will undergo rigorous training.
"Physical conditioning, combat tactics, and strategy.
"Prove yourselves worthy, and you will earn your place."
Lyca and Juliet shared determined looks.
Their journey was just beginning.
