Damien POV
“Sarah, Chloe’s water just broke, I am about to bring her and John to you,” I mind link the pack doctor.
“Okay Alpha, I will get her room prepared for when you arrive. I’ll have her in the room you asked for!” Sarah replied.
I speed into action and grab the go bag I had her prepare and put into my office for just this reason. She called me crazy when I made her pack multiple bags and place them in different locations; I told her it wasn’t crazy; I called it being prepared for any possible situation. Throwing the bag’s strap across my body, I go to her and see that John is still shocked and not moving.
“John,” I say taking his shoulder and shaking it slightly, “John, it’s go time buddy, get up and get the car ready, I’ll follow right behind you with Chloe.” That got his attention, and he jumped up and ran outside, I hear start the car and bring it as close to the entrance as possible as I carry my sister outside. John runs to the side of the car and opens the back door and takes Chloe from my arms and puts her on the seat and then joins her.
“Can you drive Damien, I don’t trust myself right now,” John whispers. I can see his hands shaking nervously. I just nod and get in the driver’s seat and take off towards the pack doctor's office. It is only a five-minute drive but I make it in two, I don’t want to chance having to deliver the babies myself.
“Can you two calm down,” I hear Chloe say from the back seat. “I’m barely having any contractions right now. Goddess knows, I’ve only had one since my water broke 10 minutes ago.”
“Sarah, we are out front, we’ll be in in a few moments,” I announce. As soon as I put the car in park John had the back door open, scooping Chloe out of the car he rushed her into the office and straight to her room. I know the drill so I lag a little behind so that the doctor will have enough time to get Chloe situated in bed and check her over to see how far she has progressed in labor. I don’t need to see my sister in that position, I love her and she means everything to me because she is the only family I have left here after our parents died when I was 18. I slowly enter into the room and peak my head around the door to see if she is decent before going all the way into the room, luckily she is decent.
“So, how are we doing doc?” I ask Sarah as she walks towards the door.
“Alpha, we seem to be doing well. Her water has broken, but we’re still at the early stages of labor. Chloe is only at three centimeters and her contractions still aren’t that close together, so we are looking at a few more hours before we deliver these beautiful babies,” Sarah updates me. I nod in acknowledgement as she continues on her way out the door. I look at my sister in her hospital bed and make my decision, I am not going to leave her and go to the gathering, I’ll find another way to find my mate.
“Mike, I need you and the unmated warriors to go with all the unmated wolves who want to go to the gathering tonight. I am not going this year, Chloe’s water just broke. I will be staying here to make sure that if for some reason we are attacked I can protect her and the babies. Have all the mated warriors know to stand alert and to relieve the unmated wolves of their posts,” I mind link my gamma.
“Yes Alpha, I will take care of our pack members and give the warriors their orders,” he quickly responds. I walk over to my sister satisfied that everything has been taken care of.
“Are you ready to become a mommy?” I playfully ask my sister.
“Almost. I know that you’ve decided to stay now, but could you please go to ‘our’ lake and get the flowers mom used to pick all the time? I need some here please, it will be like she’s here with me when I need her,” Chloe asks with tears in her eyes.
“Of course I will,” I say. I walk over to her and place a kiss on her head.
“John, let me know if her labor progresses while I’m gone. Let me know if I need to rush back for any reason,” I mind link John as I walk out the door.
“I will Alpha.”
I leave the hospital and hop into the car and drive back to the house. Our lake is a couple miles behind our house, but it is through the woods and there isn’t a road to drive on. I get out of the car and hike through the woods to get to our lake. Once I reach it i pick our mother’s favorite flowers, Blueflag Irises. The violet-blue flowers bring back memories of our family coming here and swimming. I was so lost in my memories that I didn’t hear another wolf coming until I saw her run out of the woods and stop just in time from running into the lake. Before I could even move, I watched as the poor girl dropped to her knees sobbing and my heart broke for her.
