Uncovering the truth

Lily’s POV I woke up to a painful headache. I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. Where was I? I felt horrible, my body was exhausted. It took a lot of effort but I slowly pushed myself up so I was sat up on the bed. Wait a minute, who’s bed was I in? Panic started to set in as the events of earlier settled in. I started to look around for my belongings so I could escape. “You’re awake.” A voice startled me and I looked up to see Mike entering the room. “Mike, where am I?” I was so scared that I could barely remember what I saw of him last night. It was all a massive blur. He came over and sat on the bed next to me but I slightly backed away. Could I still trust him? He noticed and let out a sigh before he spoke. “Lily, there’s a lot to explain and I need you to keep an open mind. This isn’t going to be easy. I will tell you everything but please just trust me.” I noticed the sincerity in his eyes but still kept my guard up. “Where am I?” I repeated. “You’re at my place. You’ll be safe here, I promise. I’ll bring in a change of clothes and a towel so you can shower and then we’ll talk. I’m sure you’ll feel a bit better afterwards.” He left to go get me the items and I made my way to his bathroom. I had no idea what was going on but I pushed that into the back of my mind and just relaxed under the warm water. I felt my stress melt away as the remnants from last night washed off of my skin. After a couple of minutes I turned the shower off and dried myself off. To my surprise, there was new underwear in the clothes Mike gave me. When did he have the time to buy this? I quickly got changed and felt refreshed. As I left the bathroom, I saw Mike in his living room placing two cups of coffee down. “I made it just how you like it, come sit down and we can talk. How was your shower?” He asked as he looked up to me. “It was nice, thank you for the clothes. When did you have time to buy them though?” “I didn’t, Gabriel did.” “Gabriel?” I questioned. That name sounded familiar to me. “Yes, come on.” He beckoned as he gestured to the sofa. “I’m sure you have a lot of questions.” He was right, I really did. I had no idea what to ask though, nothing made sense. “I don’t even know what to ask. What’s going on Mike? Was I hallucinating? You had wings, is that even possible?” My mind ached with all the questions I had, I could barely comprehend anything. “Let me explain, just keep an open mind, okay?” I nodded in acknowledgment and he continued. “It all started ten years ago. Demons from Hell started to wage a war against Heaven. Don’t make that face, just listen.” I nodded and he continued again. “Angels and demons have been at war for a long time but things had calmed down until that point. Since then, countless of our kind have died in this war, trying to win so that Heaven can be preserved. Yes, I said our kind. I’m an angel Lily and you’re part angel too. You see , you are the key to the demons winning. You have very powerful angel blood and are one of the last of your bloodline. If they got a hold of you, they could use the power that comes with your blood to defeat the angels and destroy Heaven. I was sent to protect you five years ago when the demons started to gain power. We had to protect you so that they would not use you. One of the higher angels thought it would be better to keep a closer eye on you rather than watch over you from Heaven. Gabriel came with me as I couldn’t always look after you. The man who tried to attack you last night was a demon who was going to take you to Lucifer. That’s why I killed him. They have been searching for your whereabouts for years and they have found you but I promise I will keep you safe. I know it’s a lot and that’s a very brief summary but I’m happy to answer your questions.” I sat there in silence trying to comprehend what he told me. My best friend was an angel, I was half angel and demons wanted to use my blood which made me one of the last of my bloodline so they could destroy Heaven. This could not be real. “Lily?” He called out. I looked up and met his eyes. “What am I? And who are you really?” Those two questions were burning within me. “My name is Michael. I do care for you Lily, that was never a lie. I am immortal and have tried to change how I act in order to fit in better with the humans and stop myself from drawing attention. It would only stand out to demons and put you in danger. And you are part angel and part human. Your father was an angel and fell in love with your mother, who was a human, during one of his missions. She gave birth to you but died during childbirth. Her human body could not take the toll of giving birth to a supernatural creature. Your father sent you to an orphanage as he knew it was not safe to take you to Heaven. He was too heartbroken to care for you himself. During one of his battles against demons, he died a horrible death. This was before they knew of his bloodline so they burned his body and only after did they realise their mistake. That’s what makes you so special, you have seraphim blood Lily. One of the most important bloodlines to angels.” I couldn’t control myself and burst out in tears at this information. This was all so much. I was always told my parents died in an accident at the orphanage but somehow it hurt more to know my father abandoned me. I felt Mike come over and hug me as I cried into his chest. “I don’t want this Mike” I sobbed. “ I’m just a normal girl, I can’t be involved in this war.” They wanted to kill me for my blood and power, and that thought terrified me. He stroked my hair and started to soothe me before he spoke. “This is your war too Lily, you’re one of us. Even with your human blood, you are still a very powerful angel.” After a couple of minutes of finishing crying and getting myself together, a thought crossed my mind. “Wait” I spoke out. “How did you know where I was yesterday? Did you follow me on my date with Caleb?” His face hardened at the mention of Caleb’s name. “You need to stay away from Caleb Lily, he’s not on our side.” “What do you mean? Is he a demon?” Surely that couldn’t be right, he hadn’t hurt me. Mike looked conflicted before he spoke. I had a feeling this wasn’t going to be an easy conversation.
