“Hey, what will you do to that small jar?” I asked Zoe, but she's just looking at the small jar.
“Zoe, I'm asking you.” I gently pat her shoulder, and she suddenly gasped.
“Oh, sorry, Let's wait till the sunset ends.” I sighed. She smiled at me. I just shrugged my shoulder.
The time has come, and the sunset was already gone, the starry night sky began to appear.
“Is it wonderful, right?” Her bright smile makes me feel so much amusement, together with this beautiful sky.
The fireflies began to fly and started to light themselves. She catches some and puts it inside the jar.
“Wow!” Her eyes were sparkling, “I thought it's only a myth, but look at this, Sammy! It's beautiful!” she exclaimed.
“Yeah, can I hold it?” I asked. It's wonderful! Nature is truly amazing, and beautiful.
She looked at me, and she said, “Sure... they are glowing.” My heart skipped a beat.
We both held it and stared at the fireflies for a couple of minutes.
“Hey, look! There's a shooting star, make a wish Zoe!” I said with a jubilant voice.
I pointed out the shooting star, “I wish that everything will be fine, and peacefully, I want a happy life, with my parents,” she said, while her eyes were closed.
My heart skipped a beat again. The night sky is full of stars, and it makes us feel better and wonderful.
We sat on the ground, while she's still holding the jar of fireflies.
I sighed and feels the cold breeze that's been touching my skin.
“I don't want to go home, can we stay here at least for 30 minutes?” her voice becomes weak. I smiled because of amusement.
“Sure, as long as you are happy with me, I will stay with you, and I will accompany you wherever you wanted to go,” I said, and decided to lay down on the ground.
We are sitting here in the Bermuda grass.
The glowing fireflies added the magical scenery of the starry night sky.
I wish that this sky is always like this.
The silence covered us, and the sounds of the different insects that you could hear were filling this vacant slot.
“You know what, I met this little boy at our school, he's so cute, and kind,” I stated. She's just listening to me, and guess what, she's still holding the jar.
It seems like she's not going to free the fireflies.
“I think, I like his attitude,” I added. She looked down and stared at the jar.
“Do you have a crush on him?” She suddenly asked, with a blank expression.
“I don't know what kind of question was that? We are only in the 7th grade.” She's still looking at the sky.
“Yes, we are in the 7th grade, so it's not impossible!” She looks irritated.
“Why are you shouting? Are you mad?” Her expression becomes soft, and her shoulders went slumped.
“No, sorry for shouting at you, I'm just... tired,” she murmured, but I can't understand it, so I hug her.
“Look, the fireflies are dying, do you still want to keep it inside the jar?” I asked. She scanned the jar.
Their lights are dim, and it seems like they are going to suffocate in the jar.
“Hmm, I don't want to let them go, they are beautiful, I want to keep them,” she said with a teary eye.
I don't think if her attitude is normal, or what, but even the small things were causing her to cry.
Although, it's nonsense, or nothing can give the benefits to her.
“But, they are dying.” I took a deep breath, and let it out slowly.
“Okay, I will let them go.” Although her voice is trembling, she chose to let them go and can fly freely.
“How about the little boy you're talking about earlier, what was his name?” Zoe looked at me with a bewildered look on her face.
“I don't know, I just saw him joining the survey group, they were surveying the students from different schools,” I answered.
“What year or grade level?”
I think for a minute or two.
“Maybe, he's in 8th grade or 9th grade, I don't know,” I said, it's just my conclusions, but I don't know what is the truth.
“If you want, you can find, or search for him, I heard from the other teacher, he is from the school of scholars.”
Just what I said, the boy was from that kind of school. He must be smart!
I want to be friends with him, maybe, he is good at making friends.
“I will find him!” she exclaimed. I smiled at her, I'm still thinking that smiling is the one that I can do just to make her feel comfortable.
“Let's go home, it's already 8:30 in the evening, your 30 minutes was already done, we need to go home, your mother might be worrying about you,” I chattered.
“Yes, you're right, we should go home.” She smiles at me and stood up.
We bring our belongings, and after a few minutes, we arrived at our home.
“Sammy, where have you been?” My mother asked me, while she's preparing our food.
“I'm with Zoe, we watched the fireflies glowing in the darkness.” Something hits my mind.
I think I'm just the firefly.
Glowing in the darkness, but when I ran out of breath, my lights will dim, until it fades out.
So, you must let me go while I'm glowing as bright as the light that can go with your dark side.
The dark side that anyone cannot be seen, or cannot believe.
Don't suffocate me, let me fly as long as I can, and I will promise to be with you all the time.
I can be your shooting stars, although I can't accomplish your wishes, I will appear in your darkness.
I'm you're best friend, through ups and downs.
You can lean on me, Zoe. It sounds like a sugar-coated word, but I mean it. Every single word that I promised myself was real.
My eyes opened. It's just the memories, I'm here in the hospital, and my Auntie was gone.
