Chapter Forty-EightThe commotion in the alleyway startled Anna from her painting, which instantly put her in a bad mood. She moved from her easel and canvas to the window and glared down at the same group of teenagers she had encountered the other day. They were further down the alleyway now, perhaps purposefully positioning themselves out of reach of her catapult. Anna recognised the husky tone of Mrs Allen, an elderly lady who lived further up the street. Mrs Allen was short in stature but big in personality, with the raspy voice of a smoker although Anna had never actually seen her smoke.
