Party

Trina and I got ready together, and her mom dropped us to the party. It was being held at the pack house, and our whole school was invited. To be honest, this was one of the very few times that I had actually been at the pack house. It was huge and beautiful, with perfectly manicured gardens and even a pool. Pack members were allowed to use a lot of the facilities, but most of the omega class pack members tended to stay clear. We made our way over to the tables and helped ourselves to drinks as we surveyed the scene in front of us. Trina spotted a couple of our other friends and started to drag me over towards them, when suddenly I bumped against somebody and my drink splashed right down my dress. "Oh s**t," I mumbled to myself before looking up. "Oh shit." As I looked up, I locked eyes with none other than the birthday boy himself. "I'm so sorry, I really hope I didn't spill any of that on you. My friend Trina was dragging me and.." I trailed off, looking around and searching for Trina who had disappeared into the crowd. I caught her eyes as she mouthed 'sorry' in my direction. I looked back at Lucas, who was studying me with a puzzled expression. "It's Cassie right?" he asked, and for some reason I blushed. I'm sure I saw the corners of his mouth curling up when he noticed my flushed cheeks. "Yes that's right," I confirmed. "Once again, I'm so sorry. Please enjoy your night." I started to back away, when a strong hand caught mine. "You don't need to apologise to me Cassie, I'm bone dry. It's you who is stood there dripping." I looked down and noticed for the first time that my dress was soaked in punch. Again, my cheeks flushed as Lucas kept his eyes on me. They were the deepest green, and I tried my best not to stare at them. He really was handsome. "Shall we go and find you something dry to wear? I'm sure we have something suitable in the packhouse," Lucas offered, catching me totally off guard. We'd barely even spoken two words before, why was he being so nice to me all of a sudden? I tried to refuse, but Lucas insisted and found an omega who lead me inside and was able to locate some spare clothes for me. I quickly changed and headed back out. I scanned the party, trying to spot Trina and our other friends. Before I did, something else caught my eye. Lucas was by the drinks table chatting very closely with our classmate Carmen. She was leaning in to him and touching his arm. As the daughter of our pack's beta, I know she was desperate to have Lucas as her mate. I don't know why, but looking at the way she was fawning all over him made me feel sick to my stomach. "Woah there girl, what's with the death stare?" Trina asked all of a sudden, making me jump.  I didn't know how to explain what I'd just been feeling, so brushed it off as concentration while trying to look for Trina. She seemed to buy it. The rest of the night was relatively uneventful, and I didn't speak to Lucas again. A few times as I scanned the crowd I locked eyes with him, but quickly looked away. What the hell was wrong with me?
