A Reason To Stay

|Aria| My life flashed right in front of me. I didn’t know where the rogues came from or how they were able to infiltrate the alpha’s residence. It was very crazy; my heart almost dropped out of my mouth. Thankfully, the yellow-eyed wolf came in time. I never expected him to appear out of nowhere. As if he had been looking for ways to empty out his anger, they were all wounded before I could blink. Two of them dropped down my feet lifeless and the last one was wounded badly. The sight was too much for me to bear; it was more gruesome than the scene that happened in the human world. “How dare you lay your filthy hands on what I own?” His growl was deep enough for me to hear as I collapsed in exhaustion. My body was too weak to bear all that was happening at that time but my safety was sure—one thing I could vouch for. **** My eyes were greeted with the bright sun that gleamed through the curtain, blowing gently with the wind. I had finally woken up after losing my sanity a few hours ago. I stared at the gentle atmosphere with a very cool room décor that spoke of immense wealth. Something felt odd, but my brain hasn’t processed it. I rolled to the side and my eyes landed on the least person I was expecting to see. The alpha was sitting at the far edge of the room, where he flipped the book in his hand gently. His side profile was damn attractive. That was the first time I would look at him with so much attention. His skin was pure and fair; it felt like a smooth surface I’d love to run my hands through. “Get a grip!” I shook my head vigorously That was not the right time to admire someone like him. Is there even a right time? He’s my sworn enemy. But wait! What was he doing in my room? Did he sleep in my room all night? After saving me? “Come here and have breakfast with me if you are done sleeping,” he declared calmly, not lifting his gaze from the book Why was he interested in my breakfast? We are not close enough to share moments like that. I tried rolling to the other side so I could turn my back and something clicked. My body jumped up before my brain could process it. I was mistaken; it was his room! “I slept here yesterday?” The question flew out of my mouth in horror. My eyeballs were twice their sizes as I waited for him to give me the answer, even though it was glaring enough. “Do you need me to answer that?” Of course he should! What was I doing in his room? My hand pulled the cover up so I could check myself under the blanket but my clothes were intact. I glanced back and forth but he didn’t spare me any glance. “You didn’t do anything funny, right?” my hands flying to my chest to cover it “Stop being dramatic and step out of that bed.” The sound of him closing the book with a snap jolted me. I slowly made my way down the bed and headed for the dining table. He must have brought me to his chambers when I passed out yesterday. But why? He could have sent me to my room instead of bringing me here. Did he sleep next to the bed? Did I snore by chance? I hated the fact that I didn’t have answers to any of the questions that filled my head. Niamh entered the room with her entourage and his breakfast was wheeled in. I sat at the far edge of the table, trying not to look at him because his gaze was fixed on my face. “Good morning, Lady Aria. Please come with me.” Niamh’s invitation was my life saver. I bolted out of my seat and rushed to meet her where she was. Without any word, she led me to the other side of the room, which turned out to the bathroom. “We need to get your face washed and your teeth.” Ah! I was too disorganized to even think about that. Within minutes, I was done cleaning up and was ushered back to the table where the food was already served. The breakfast was a quiet and awkward one. I could hear my food trickling down my throat. A word from him would have eased the tension but he just ate silently, focusing on his food. **** “I can go now right?” my legs found their way to the door as soon as the breakfast was over. At the opening of the door, I was greeted by the man I had seen with the alpha a few days ago. It was the Beta! “Good morning, my lady,” his eyes beamed with so much radiance that I comported myself immediately. How could one be so handsome early in the morning? It was too late to pretend I wasn’t smitten by his beauty. “Train her, starting from today.” His voice rang, bringing me back to reality. The beta looked at me with a smile after glancing at the alpha and stepped aside for me to leave the room. “I will see you at the training field at 11,” his gentle voice passed the message across before he disappeared into the room to have a talk with the alpha. Niamh walked me to my room, where I cleaned up and got changed into my training clothes. I was happy that the Beta would be training me at least. Also, the fact that I would level up my defense also made me happy. “At least, I can defend myself when I finally escape,” I thought as I marched to the training ground confidently. Everything I needed was already prepared before I got there. I didn’t even know how I had so much strength, considering the ordeal I went through in the past few days. “The Beta’s face must have healed me,” my cheeks flushed pink as I watched him approach the training ground. His sleeveless tunic was resting on his chausses, showing off his wide shoulder. His soft leather boots elegantly displayed his straight legs as his waist moved in the leather belt holding the tunic in place. “I think my training will be something else,” my mind raced as he approached me Maybe, I have finally found one interesting reason to stay back at the pack!
