Chapter 29

"Thanks, I really appreciate it but I think I might have a much better idea." I said to him. "Uhh, I think you know your way out of this village already, so I'll be heading home now." Raha suddenly told us, then she slowly walks away from us. "Wait, Raha!" I called out to her. "What?" she asked with one of her eyebrows raised again like a caterpillar reaching for its mama. "Since you are from here and I think you knew what happened to the Simmons, do you perhaps know where their house is? And are you perhaps an acquaintance of their family?" "Why would you want to know that out of nowhere? It's none of your business." "I know that. It's just that I want to help them in any way possible, in any way I could. As a mage myself, I don't want when my fellow mages use their powers to no good. I should at least show people that there are two sides of every coin. I want to show them that there are still people who can be kind and good even if they possess some type of power within them." "Ah so you're just gonna go there to show off your power randomly?? And what? You're just gonna show there out of the blue, as Scarlet??" "Of course not. I still need to protect my identity so I won't take this mask off. And most definitely, I won't go there just to show off. I will go there to help." "Oh yeah, how are you planning to do that??" I turn to Finley and said, "Finley, I want to give the other half of golden coinage you're offering me to the Simmons. It might not be that much but, I think it's still a good cause." "Scarlet, the chief told you that he already reached out to them and what their onto now is grief, so it's not gonna be about money. It's not always about money for everything." Raha said to me. It's like she's opposing everything I say. "I know that Raha. That's why I want to go and find out how I can help in other ways. I just want to give them the small amount of money we got because it can still help them. Why are you opposed to the idea of helping??" "What?? I'm not opposed to the idea, I'm just helping you think practically! You're welcome!" I think she's getting more upset with me now. "Well, I don't need that right now. I just want your support please? Can you just take us there? I don't want to fight with you. I miss Raha, where is she; the generous, kind, helpful and sweet Raha we knew?" "Raha's different now, for your information. You don't have to act like my sister anymore. That's been years ago. You should have moved on as I did, Scar." She answered with a cold tone on her voice. She slowly walked away but then stopped again. I just feel bad knowing that all these years she still has a luggage carried behind her back that she doesn't want to let go. "Raha...I..." I stuttered, didn't know what to say. "Just hurry up please, so we could get this over with quickly." She suddenly uttered while she has her back on us. I looked at Finley with a sad eyes and I can see his eyes replied back as if trying to say that it's going to be alright. We followed Raha as she walked faster than usual. She was way ahead and we just tried to catch up with her. It's gonna be a long walk but if it means we get to help a family in need, it's still going to be worth it. **************************** It's been a while before we arrived at the east side of the village. This side is where most of the poor families resides in. Small huts are all over the place with the long lake beside it. "Do you know their house, Raha?" Finley asked her, breaking the silence that's been resonating among the three of us for the past long minutes that we were walking. "Obviously yes, why would I waste my time accompanying the both of you if I didn't?? Just...just follow me." Raha bitterly replied to him. "Uhm, sorry, that was a silly, ignorant thing to ask." Finley said and I can tell he feels ashamed but I think he's just trying to ease the tension between me and Raha. Finally, just a few minutes after, we finally reached the house of the Simmons family. It was a small, old, wooden shack that has many broken parts from the outside although it stands still. Raha knocked on the door for us. She knocked for the second time and it finally burst open. A middle-aged woman greeted her delightedly as if they knew each other so well. "Oh Raha! The kids has been waiting for you all day! I told them you were just here yesterday and they told me that you shouldn't have to leave and that you should just never leave!" the woman said gleefully. "Well, they might get disappointed for I didn't brought their favorite!" Raha blithely replied as if she wasn't grumpy all the time we were together this day. "Oh, don't be silly! Treat or no treat, they would still be waiting for you! They just love your company!" "Oh don't make me blush! By the way, the reason I'm here is because I've brought these two here. They want to meet you. Don't worry, they're good people." Raha said nicely. She turned into a completely different person out of a sudden. "Oh well, hello! My name's Lynnet, what brings you by?" she warmly greeted. I can already tell that she's such a sweetheart. "Greetings! I am Scar, this is Finley right here and we wanted to talk to your family if it's alright with you." I politely said to her.
