Chapter 7

1013 Words
"Where am I this time?" I thought to myself as light flashed in front of me, unveiling a strange and mysterious place that I have never seen before. It was some sort of dark alley that looks like an ideal place for a hideout. I find myself in front of a lady with long, white hair. Her face seems a bit blurry but I can tell how beautiful she might be. She suddenly hugged me as she cried for I don't know what reason. I try to hug her back but out of a sudden, I felt a sharp object thrust into my neck and I saw a hand holding a broken piece of glass which seems to me like a part of the bottle of potion that was beside me. My heart beats fast which means I'm still alive but blood keeps rushing out of my neck and I can feel this excruciating pain that aggravates every second the blood comes out. I feel like I'm on a slow death march. It was so intense that I suddenly woke up out of breath. It was the middle of the night! I could've sworn that was a dream since I'm awake now; but it felt very real. For this instance, I honestly couldn't determine what is a dream or what is the reality anymore. It's becoming a literal existential crisis for me as of now and I don't want that getting my way with this quest in which I choose to believe is real. But just to be safe, I should avoid anything that looks like that dark alley that if ever get to that kind of alley I can't assure my safety. It might actually entail my next death trap. ********************************* I kept training every single day with the help of Varan. He's a very disciplined and helpful trainer and I'm new to someone who's motivating me instead of pressuring me into something I need to do. He has helped me tone my pace in combat and improve my strength and coordination through a basic combat training. Basic is a good start according to him especially now that I am still new to this. I guess my master combat training in my games doesn't count for this one, how disappointing. *Swish* *Clang* yes, that's right. That's the sound of our swords clanging with each other. Varan challenged me on a duel as he tries to put me to a test after such a vigorous training. It was a rough beginning but as the fight progresses, I eventually found the right pace and strategy. I am finally keeping up with him and its going pretty well until I managed to pin him to the ground which implies his defeat. I actually passed the basic combat training. I knew that Varan took it easy on me since I am just starting but I still felt proud of myself for accomplishing something that I'm actually starting to be dedicated to do. I actually had my first official combat battle and I won. "You'd make quite a hero, Finley. You surprised me with moves that I haven't taught you and that is something out of the ordinary. You're quite a natural and you don't even know it." Varan suddenly stated as we fix the room where we just had a fight. "Well, I don't know about hero, maybe a fighter but I don't really see myself as a hero. Doesn't seem to fit me at all." "Just shut up and take the compliment." "All right, all right, thank you, master." I replied with rolling eyes but then I added genuinely, "But seriously thank you Varan. Thank you for everything and that is sincere, I promise." "Well, this will be the last day of your training. I do believe that you are quite ready. I hope you fight like this on the quest. I know that you'll do just fine." Varan uttered. "When I return, I'll treat you with the best foods to your heart's content!" "Then you better not get your ass killed this time. Go ahead and prepare for tomorrow. You better not be slacking off looking like a young, sloth who's too slow in preventing his own death." He babbled with a smirk on his face. "Well, I think I'm gonna miss all the tag lines." I said sarcastically. "So you better return alive because I still have a lot of those." Varan said as he laughed at his own jest. I head back to the small inn where I was staying so I could prepare for a whole new expedition. It will be a five day journey going to Draco if taken on foot. I then prepared for all the important stuff I would be needing for survival like the weapons, gears and some clothes that Varan gave me. I brought a little food that could last me for one day and I could fish on the lake that's going to be at reach the entire time. It would be an easy catch since the lake is known to have a bountiful feast underneath. If there is anything I am good at survival, it would be food hunting. No wild animal can ever face a man who's desperately in need of food for his grumbling stomach. I honestly feel like I can do anything as long as food is involved. The only problem I can think of right now is the actual safety of the potion that is at stake. It is pretty special and a rare type of potion as Varan told me so it might grab the attention of some thieves who might even be an adventurer himself. Likewise, I can be careless sometimes and since it's in a glass bottle, I could potentially drop and break it myself which will be more devastating for me. It's better to be safe than sorry. All the worrying led me to build a wooden box where the potion could fit and I placed tons of cotton inside before securing the potion in place.
