Chapter 8

1001 Words
I put a little string and created a sort of like a handle so I can just tie it around my hand if needed. I placed it on my bag and slept soundly for the night. I woke up the next day with a smile on my face. I know that the anxiety and uncertainties are still building up inside me but the excitement might have overshadowed all that for now. I do think that I am ready for this quest and I just know that I will stay alive. "Exciting day, isn't it?" greeted Varan who just entered. "Yeah, for real though, it's gonna be an adventure for sure." I said without a doubt. I welcome the day with an auspicious attitude and prepared myself for the quest. As I got out of the small inn, Varan stunned me with a worried look on his face saying he wanted to talk to me privately. "The village head or should I say the client of your quest from the next town called me" he hastily said with sweat dripping from his face. Something must be wrong. "He told me about this group of bandits that forced him to disclose all the details about the expected trade which is the quest you'll be working on. Since it's a rare type of magic potion, they might be after it. They would steal it from you so they can start a ruckus of some sort in the village through some magic spells." He added with utmost concern. "I sure hope they did not hurt the client. But I will be fine, Varan. You taught me how to handle myself even in tough situations like this. I can and will take care of myself." My confidence seems to take its toll on me today. I then left after bidding Varan another farewell and started to trek my way to Draco. First four days seems to be just fine until the fifth day came. I'm continuing my path towards my destination when out of a sudden, a group of brawny, barbarous looking men with this very manly physique wearing all black attires with their faces masked, only displaying their fierce eyes towards me, came blocking my way. They looked like a group of ninjas, although I'm guessing they might be the bandits that Varan was talking about. They started murmuring something until the man in front spoke with smug look on his face, "And you must be the one the village head told us about" "Oh please, you have nothing to take from me, I assure you that. Do I look like I'm rich?" I uttered as an attempt to cover up. "We know you're hiding something." "Me?? Hide something?? Tsk, I am an open book, I can even show you the color of my underwear." I quip with a smirk on my lips as I make a stance. They all sneered at me as if I'm some type of a silly, foolish boy. I can feel the adrenaline rush through my body. I know that I feel confident but as I look at these men before me, I'm not even sure if I can punch them without breaking my knuckles. They all started to get something from their satchels. It was a similar set of books which looked familiar. Then one of them started chanting some sort of incantations loudly at me which startled me a bit. Moi Aqua Adurna Reisa knifr! Water started reeking from the ground metamorphosing into a silver casted, sleek and thin sword. Then one of them started slicing the tree beside them as if he just sliced a butter for a toast. That made me gulped real hard. Now, I might actually piss in my pants. Varan never mentioned anything like this. The other two followed with their own incantations and one formed a sharpened, elongated spear conjured by the element of fire and the other instantly wrought a magnificent bow bewitched by the wind element. I mean it looked straight like out of the movies and it looks so cool but being in a position to fight them isn't cool right now. I need to focus and try to maintain that self-assurance that I built up really hard the past few days. I sharpened my gaze and prepare myself as they attack me all at once. I dodged their first strike, thanks to Varan's training. He really helped me sharpen my senses and he taught me how to counter-attack which was important in combat. I evaded the attempted strikes of the sword and spear bandits who thrusts their weapons at me at the same time. I quickly ran towards the bow bandit considering the other two will be harder to defeat with their ranged weapons. It increases their attack power and coming at me at the same time might be the end of me. As I was about to pierce my sword into the bow bandit's body, he swiftly chanted a spell that fortified his body, softening the attack and yet I was surprised when the impact of my attack was enough to knock the man down unconscious. As I turned my head, I caught the sword bandit at the right time as he was about to strike my head. Fortunately, I dodged the attack once again when... AHH!! The spear of the other bandit pierced through my abdomen and I was about to pass out. When out of the blue, a masked woman appeared out of nowhere catching me in her arms. My racing heart skipped a beat and I totally forgot the annihilation going on around me for a second. Can't believe how at this very moment, she dazzled me with those luminous, sapphire blue eyes and hair as pale and white as a snow, something I easily spotted like a white flame. Really??Now?? At a time like this?? The universe has got to be kidding me! How dare she captivate me at a moment like this?
