mate is coming 5

Chapter 5 Alice POV When I woke up the next morning, I almost forgot where I was. For a few seconds, I just stared at the ceiling, trying to remember what had happened and where I had ended up. Then everything came rushing back. Randy. The apartment. Leaving. Running. I reached for my phone, thinking I was going to call the person I was supposed to meet about the apartment. But the second I looked at the screen, my stomach dropped. Several missed calls Several voice mails. Not again, I closed my eyes for a second before pressing play on the first voice mail. “Pick up the damn phone.” That was it. No apology. No explanation. Just Randy's angry voice. I immediately blocked the number. But then another thought hit me. If he could reach me here, this far away, how long would it be before he figured out where I was? I wasn't taking any chances. I pulled the SIM card out of my phone and stared at it for a moment before tossing it into the nearest trash can. If he could track me through my phone or SIM card, then he wasn't going to be tracking me anymore. I wasn't going to let him find me. Not this time. I grabbed my things, threw them into the car, and took off. I didn't stop until I needed gas. While I was filling the tank, I went inside the gas station and bought a cheap GPS that could sit on my dashboard, along with a paper map. I didn't trust my phone anymore. When I got back into the car, I spread the map across the steering wheel and stared at it. Where could I go? Somewhere Randy would never think to look. Somewhere far enough away that he couldn't just jump in his car and come after me. I closed my eyes and laughed softly. "Okay, Alice. Pick somewhere." I spun my finger around the map before pointing down. When I opened my eyes, I smiled. Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Perfect. Randy had always hated the idea of going there. He complained that it was too cold, there was too much wildlife, and he hated being surrounded by mountains.,which meant it was probably the perfect place for me. "Alright then," I whispered. "Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Let's go." I made sure my tank was completely full before pulling back onto the road. According to the GPS, it was going to take several days to get there. Several days. I could handle that. No more hotels. I wasn't leaving a trail behind me. I'd stop at rest areas when I got tired, sleep in my car if I had to, and keep moving. I had enough cash to get me there, and I wasn't using anything that could be connected back to me. For the first time since I left Randy, I felt like I was actually in control of my life. I took a deep breath, started the engine, and pulled onto the highway. "Several days?" I muttered, glancing at the GPS. "Let's see how fast I can get there.” And I drove. I didn't look back. Alpha Ice POV I was working on my motorcycle when the day somehow managed to get even worse. It had already been one hell of a day. Earlier, while we were riding through town, we'd run into a rival pack that apparently thought starting a fight was a good way to spend their afternoon. This town was supposed to be peaceful, for crying out loud. The only rowdy people around here were usually the ones hanging out at my bikers club we visited from time to time. I wiped my hands with a rag and stared down at my bike. I'd been looking for my mate for more than three hundred years.Three hundred damn years. And I had found nothing. I'd had women, sure. Plenty of them. But none of them had been my mate. I never promised them anything. We'd have our fun, and when it was over, I'd move on. No commitments. No relationships. I had always figured that if my mate was out there somewhere, the Moon Goddess would eventually bring her to me. Apparently, she had a different sense of timing than I did. Because today, my wolf had been acting strange. Spike wouldn't stop pacing inside my head. Back forth.Back and forth. Back and forth. It was starting to give me a damn headache. "Will you stop pacing?" He ignored me. "Skull." Nothing. Finally, his voice came through. “Something is coming.” I frowned. "What do you mean something is coming?" Skull was usually calm, but there was something different in his voice now. Something serious. My wolf was powerful. One of the strongest wolves I'd ever known, and I wasn't saying that just because he lived inside me. He was a pure white wolf with golden eyes, and he possessed abilities most wolves didn't have. He could sense things before they happened. He could see things coming long before anyone else knew there was a problem. And right now, he was telling me something was coming. I needed to know what. I needed to know whether my pack was in danger. "What is coming, Skull?" His answer made my entire body freeze. “Mate is coming.” I blinked. "What?" “Human mate is coming.” I stared at the motorcycle in front of me. A human?, My mate was human? "What the f**k?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. After three hundred years of waiting, my mate was finally coming to me, and she was human. Of all the things I expected, that wasn't one of them. "Goddess, what the hell am I supposed to do with a human mate?" Skull growled.”Protect her.” I shook my head. "Protect her from what?" His response came immediately. “She's running.” I tossed the rag onto the ground. "How long?" Spike was quiet. "How long do we have before she gets here?" Nothing. "Spike!" Finally, he answered. Three days. I stared at the ground. Three days. "We have three days to prepare?" “Three days. Then we find her.” I rubbed my face. "Good Goddess." This wasn't going to be easy. She wasn't just going to magically show up at my front door and announce that she was my mate. Somewhere out there, a human woman was running from something. And somehow, I was supposed to find her before she disappeared completely. I headed into the bikers' clubhouse. The room was loud when I walked in, but the second everyone saw my face, the noise slowly died down. They knew me too well. When I had something to say, everyone listened. I looked around at my pack. "Alright, gentlemen and ladies." Everyone chuckled. They knew damn well none of them were gentlemen or ladies. "I've got some huge news." The laughter stopped. "Skull had one of his visions." Everyone immediately became serious. "My mate is coming." A few people exchanged surprised looks. "She's going to be here in a few days." That got everyone's attention. "But there's a problem." I paused. "She's human." The room went completely silent. I could practically hear everyone thinking. Then a voice came from the side. "What the f**k, Ice?" I closed my eyes. f**k. I'd forgotten Gale was still here. I turned toward her. She was standing there with her arms crossed, glaring at me. "You said it was just you and me. You said you were going to choose me." I stared at her. "What the hell are you talking about?" She looked furious. "Now some f*****g human mate is coming, and you're just going to shove me to the side?" I shook my head. "I never promised you anything, Gale." Her expression hardened. "We've been together." "Yes. We slept together. That doesn't mean I promised you a relationship." She opened her mouth, but I continued. "I told you from the beginning that I wasn't choosing anyone except my mate." She looked at me like she wanted to argue. Then I felt Spike pushing forward. My eyes shifted, his golden glow shining through mine. Gale immediately took a step back. When skull spoke through me, his voice was deeper and carried enough power to silence the entire room. "He never promised you a damn thing, Gale. You two had s*x. That's all it was." She swallowed hard. "You knew the rules." kull continued. "You don't get to become jealous because other females exist. You don't get to claim him because you shared a bed with him. Our mate is coming, and she is our Luna.",Gale lowered her head. "If you can't accept that, you can leave this clubhouse." She glared at me for a moment before looking away. "As you wish." Then she looked back at me. "But when that human girl rejects Ice, don't come crying to me." She turned and stormed toward her room. I watched her disappear down the hallway. I already knew what she was going to do. She'd probably grab the first male pack member who gave her attention just to try to make me jealous. It wouldn't work. It never had. I had never promised Gale anything, and I wasn't going to start now. My mate was coming. Somewhere out there, she was running from something. In three days, my life was going to change forever. I just had no idea yet that the woman driving toward my town was going to change far more than my life. She was going to change everything.
