I'm done with you 2

Chapter Two Alice POV I was almost done with work, and honestly, it had been a pretty easy shift. The only thing I had to do was drive around in a golf cart, making sure nobody broke into any of the vehicles parked at the airport. It wasn't exactly exciting, but I didn't mind it. Randy, on the other hand, apparently couldn't stand the fact that I was working instead of sitting beside him. He had already called me several times, demanding that I get off work and come to the clubhouse. I ignored him. He knew I was working. He knew exactly what time my shift ended. But Randy didn't care. He never had. My phone kept ringing. Again. And again. Finally, I sighed and turned it off. I already knew what was waiting for me when I got home, probably a dozen angry texts and voice mails. I didn't care. For once, I wanted some peace. When my shift finally ended, I drove the golf cart back to the main office, parked it, and turned in the keys. Then I headed home. All I wanted was a shower. Once I got home, that's exactly what I did. Afterward, I sat on the edge of my bed, looking around my little apartment. I loved this place. It wasn't fancy, and it wasn't very big, but it was mine. It was quiet. It was the one place where I could breathe without Randy standing over me, telling me what I should or shouldn't do. I reached over and picked up my phone from the nightstand. I turned it back on. It took a few minutes to boot up. Then everything came flooding in. Missed calls. Texts. Voice mails. I rolled my eyes. Of course. I decided to listen to the voice mails first. The first one was Randy. “Alice, why the f**k did you turn off your phone? What are you doing? Are you f*****g someone?” I actually laughed. He knew I never cheated on him. I had never given him a reason to question where I was or who I was with. But Randy had never given me that same respect. I knew he cheated. I'd known for a long time. That was one of the reasons I never stayed around when the clubhouse girls showed up. I didn't want to stand there watching them drool all over my boyfriend while pretending I couldn't see what was happening. I moved on to the second voice mail. “If you don't get your ass over here right now, we're done.” I laughed again. He was always saying that. He thought I would panic. He thought I'd rush over there, beg him not to leave me, and apologize for whatever he was angry about this time. I'd never done that. Not once. I remembered when he'd demanded that I get his name tattooed across my back. I'd told him no. He hadn't spoken to me for three days. Then he was the one who came crawling back. He told me he'd missed me and wanted me to come back to the clubhouse. That was Randy. Everything always had to be about him. I played the third voice mail. “Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. Just get here when you can. See you soon.” I shook my head. That usually meant something was wrong with his car and he needed me to help get it repaired. I didn't bother checking the texts. They were probably just as ridiculous. I finally stood up and got dressed. As I pulled on a pair of ripped jeans and a black pullover top, I found myself thinking about leaving town. Not just leaving Randy. Leaving everything. Maybe I should have done it a long time ago. Randy didn't know I had money. He thought every penny I made disappeared into his cars, rent, food, and whatever else he demanded. He had no idea how much I'd managed to save. I'd been careful. I kept it hidden where he would never find it. After pulling my hair into a ponytail, I slipped on my knee-high boots and grabbed my keys. Then I headed for the clubhouse. The moment I arrived, I knew something was going on. There were cars everywhere. Clubhouse girls were scattered around the property, dressed in barely anything. Some wore tiny skirts. Others wore shorts so short they barely covered them, along with tops that showed far more than I wanted to see. I sighed and climbed out of my car. I walked straight inside. The second I stepped through the door, everyone turned to look at me. I hated that. It felt like they knew something I didn't. I kept walking. I already knew where Randy would be. And sure enough, I found him sitting on one of the couches, talking to a guy I'd never seen before. But what caught my attention wasn't the stranger. It was Emma. Red-haired Emma. She was sitting right beside Randy with her hand resting on his arm, listening to him like she belonged there. The second she saw me, she jumped up. I stopped in front of her. There had been one time when I'd caught Emma getting too close to Randy. I'd grabbed her by the hair and dragged her away from his car before giving her a lesson she'd never forgotten. She remembered. I could see the fear in her eyes now. I looked at the seat. “I think you're in the wrong seat,” I said coldly. “Why don't you go play with someone else and leave this one alone?” Emma immediately moved. Everyone knew I was Randy's woman. They just didn't care. I sat down beside him. Randy didn't even look at me. He continued talking to his friend as if I wasn't there. Then he finally spoke. “Don't be jealous. If you were here, she wouldn't have sat beside me.” I ignored him. He was drunk. Again. Randy was drunk as a skunk, acting like he was Superman himself. The man of steel. Untouchable. Unbeatable. Nothing could ever hurt Randy. At least, that's what he believed. Then he turned toward me. “Alice, why don't you come sit on my lap and let my friend know how nice you are?” I stared at my boyfriend. Had he completely lost his damn mind? He wanted me to flirt with his friend so the guy would sponsor him in the races. No. Hell no. I wasn't doing that. Yeah, the guy was attractive. I wasn't blind. But I wasn't like that. I sat down on the arm of the couch instead, staring at Randy. And for the first time, something inside me finally clicked. I was done. Completely and totally done. If I was being honest with myself, I'd been done for a long time. I had just been too scared, or maybe too stupid, to walk away. Randy was the top street racer around. Everybody knew his name. He had the fastest cars, the biggest ego, and enough money and connections to make people look the other way whenever he did something stupid. Because he was good at racing, he thought that made him untouchable. It didn't. I stood up. Then I turned and started walking away. “Alice.” I heard him call after me. I kept walking. Then I felt his hand wrap around my wrist. He yanked me backward so hard I nearly lost my balance. “I said come over here and show my friend how nice you can be, Alice.” I ripped my arm away from him. “No.” He stared at me. “What did you just say?” I looked him directly in the eyes. “I said no.” My phone suddenly dinged. I glanced down. There was a video. My heart immediately started pounding. I clicked it. I watched for a few seconds. That was all I needed. I looked up at Randy. Then I slapped him as hard as I could across the face. The entire room went silent. “There,” I snapped. “I showed him how nice I can be.” Randy stared at me, stunned. “f**k you, Randy. Leave me alone. I'm done with you.” I shoved my phone toward his face. “You want to know what was on my phone? Here. I'll show you.” The video was right there. Bright as day. Randy. And Emma. Together. f*****g like dogs in heat, There was no denying what I was looking at. For several seconds, Randy just stared at the screen. Then he laughed. Actually laughed. “Are you seriously dumping me?” I didn't answer. He pointed at me. “You? The b***h of the South? The w***e of the month” You're dumping me?” My blood boiled. He turned toward his friend, laughing like this was some kind of joke. “See? I told you she doesn't listen.” Then he looked back at me. “You still want her?” His friend didn't even get the chance to answer. I drove my knee straight into Randy. His face went completely white. He dropped to the floor, grabbing himself as he screamed in pain. “SON OF A….” I didn't stick around to hear the rest. I grabbed my keys and ran outside. I jumped into my car and took off. I wasn't thinking. I was just done. Done with Randy. Done with his friends. Done with the racing. Done with this town. And most of all, I was done allowing someone else to control my life. I knew if I stayed, Randy would make my life a living hell. He had enough influence around town to get me fired. He could make sure nobody wanted to hire me afterward. That's how much power he thought he had. So I went home. I threw clothes into bags as fast as I could. I grabbed whatever I thought I needed, then went straight for the money I'd been keeping hidden from him. I stuffed it into one of my bags and ran back outside. I didn't even bother looking back. I was leaving. For good. Before I pulled away, I looked down at my phone. Randy had a tracker on it. I knew he did. I wasn't stupid. That was how he always knew where I was. How he knew when I was on my way to the clubhouse. How he knew whether I was still at work. How he always seemed to know where I had been. I rolled down the window. Then I threw my phone as far as I could. “Goodbye, asshole.” Then I drove, but there was still one problem. My car. There was no way Randy wouldn't recognize it. So I pulled into a garage I knew would ask no questions. I left my car there and took my old one instead. It wasn't pretty. It wasn't fast. It definitely wasn't anything Randy would ever want. And that was exactly why I loved it. Nobody would look twice at it. I threw my bags inside, climbed behind the wheel, and drove away. This time, I had no phone. No boyfriend. No connection to my old life. I had nothing but a car full of clothes and the money I'd managed to save. But for the first time in years, I felt free. I knew this car didn't have a tracker. Randy had never cared about it. It was old, plain, and practically invisible. Exactly what I needed. I glanced at the road ahead of me. I had no idea where I was going. But I knew one thing. I wasn't going back. Not for Randy. Not for the clubhouse. Not for anyone. My old life was behind me now. And whatever waited for me ahead… I'd face it alone.
