Chapter 4

1669 Words
All of a sudden, sounds of gunshots went off in the hall, making me scream in fear. “Calvin, you bastard! After killing my sister, do you want to marry another wife? I told you, you can only be a widower for life. I will kill you and kill your little toy!” A masked man yelled furiously as his men shot at the guests. My heart shook in fear on hearing that I was among the targets. The assailant must be Alvan's uncle, a mafia boss from Italy. How can he leave his country, just to kill me? I watched Calvin and his men face off against them. My Dad has been long gone. The rest of the guests were running helter-skelter. “Get that wench for me,” the man added in a grating voice that had me standing up and taking to my heels. “If you run, I will shoot you!” He whispered angrily, making me freeze, as helpless tears ran down my cheeks. “Calvin, shoot yourself dead if you want to save your little woman,” he whispered with a smirk. My heart immediately sank. Calvin doesn't love me, he will never inconvenience himself to save me. “You must be a serial Joker, go ahead and kill her, I don't give a hoot,” Calvin said in his signature cold voice, making me cry harder as the painful realization dawned on me. I was getting married to a mafia boss who didn't love me. If he doesn't kill me first, his enemies will. All of a sudden, a masked man jumped down from the balcony, landing before me. I screamed in fear as he carried me up, rolling on the floor with me as gunshots rang out. “How dare you? She's going nowhere!” The man shouted, firing shots at us, while I screamed in horror. Soon we rolled out of the side porch and I felt my feet leave the ground while my savior, or maybe, abductor, ran through dark corners with me under his left arm. His cologne felt familiar, and I wondered where I had smelt such a relaxing scent before. He threw me into a car and quickly drove off while the men chased after us on a bike. Calvin's men soon joined them in hounding us, making me wonder who saved me if he was not from either camp. He stopped before a log cabin in what seemed like a forest reserve. We finally managed to lose those dogs coming after us. He carried me into the log cabin and set me down on my feet, locking the door securely, while simultaneously pulling down his mask. I swallowed nervously as I stared at Alvan. “I heard that the old bastard was getting married, and came back to take a look, only for me to realize it was you. Why did you choose this kind of life for yourself?” He whispered sadly, going to sit on the bed. “I have no other options, I can't watch my brother die,” I whispered, trying to hold back my tears. “Ten million is too small to pay for what you're signing up for. You know how I feel about you. Why didn't you ask me for help? Even If I'm out of the country, you know my social media handles. Or is it that you just dislike me?” He whispered, removing the bullet caught in his arm with forceps. I just kept crying helplessly. What can I say? The loser is always the thief. “You know I will never want to be with Calvin. I will die sometime soon if I get married to him. However, that's the only option Dad could find. I won't let Rey die because of me. Maybe if I had not been so panicked, I would have thought about a better option. But it's too late now, my fate is already sealed. If I back out now, Calvin will kill my entire family. It's too late for me. Thank you for saving me today, but I will appreciate it if you stay away next time,” I whispered and turned around to leave, bravely staving off my tears. I felt a bandaged arm wrap around my waist, carrying me back to the bed. “They're still searching for you. What if you run into Uncle Dante instead of Calvin? Just stay here?” He whispered, pulling me into his arms. I swallowed nervously. I have never been in proximity with any man in the past, making me feel shy at Alvan's action of cuddling me. “That bastard already took the woman I loved the most from me. I'm not letting him take you. If you say yes to me, I can take you far away from here, away from his grasp.” He whispered, bending down to kiss me. I pulled away and sighed. “The miracle doctor is right here, how can I leave?” I whispered in defeat. “I can't let Calvin have you. I feel disgusted thinking about him in bed with you. You've never dated before, you're still a virgin, right? Calvin will kill you, he's an abusive lover who's buried deep in hardcore brutality. Don't go to him, okay? Just stay with me, I will take care of you,” he whispered, caressing my face. I smiled wryly. How can life be that simple? He's probably not thinking about my brother, he's just thinking about taking me away with him. I felt his hands caress my body, while his lips found my ears, making me shiver. “Don't you want this? Spending your nights with a man who loves you, who knows how to make you shiver with pleasure, a man who will always put you first. Don't you want to experience that?” He whispered seductively, kissing me. Tears ran down my cheeks. Alvan probably thinks that seducing me with pleasure will make me change my mind. However, I have already decided to put my brother's interests first. I felt Alvan strip away my clothes and bite my lips, making up my mind. Rather than giving my first time to a beast, I would rather offer it to a man who will be gentle and considerate. “I want you, I love you. How can you tell me to let that bastard have you? I can't do it,” he whispered, stripping the last strap of my clothing away. I sighed and shut my eyes, letting myself enjoy his actions. Calvin will kill me when he realizes I'm no longer a virgin, but I don't care. **** I hurriedly put on my clothes as Alvan slept. Calvin must be going crazy searching for me. I don't want him to hurt my family, thinking that I botched the deal. I looked back at Alvan, who was sleeping naked with a satisfied smile on his face. Now, I'm even more reluctant to leave him. He has shown me how sweet being with him can get, making me detest Calvin the more. I silently walked out of the cabin, praying that Alvan would save me one more time like he had always done. ***** I stared nervously out of the window, the wedding ceremony was about to commence, yet I couldn't find Alvan anywhere close. Calvin had slapped me when I returned yesterday, asking me about the identity of the man who took me away. Of course, I lied about it, making him kick me around furiously. Yesterday's incident made me realize how bleak my future will be in Calvin's house. He will beat me to death. “Madam, it's time to go down the aisle,” the female attendant whispered, taking my hands as they walked me downstairs. I kept searching desperately for Alvan. 'Alvan, please save me. Just like you saved me from drowning to death in the college swimming pool, please save me. Like you saved me from those rapists in the alley, please save me. Just like you saved me at the party, please save me. Please, there's no time,' I chanted desperately in my mind, trying to hold back the tears of frustration. “Do you, Miss Clarissa Perry, take this man, Calvin Jones, as your husband, to love and to cherish, in sickness and health, till death?” The old priest asked. I gave him an irritated side glance and continued looking around, desperately searching for Alvan. “You seem to be expecting someone to save you, but he's dead. Answer the priest, or I will wring the neck of that brother of yours, and your stupid old father,” Calvin threatened in a low voice, with a broad smile on his face which made shivers run down my spine. Alvan is dead? He killed his son, just to ensure he wouldn't help us escape? Oh, God! “I do,” I whispered tearfully, as the doors of hell opened wide, ushering me into a bleak future. ****** I sat on the bed, shaking fearfully, in Calvin's room. “Why haven't you changed into the gown I gave you?” He asked impatiently, walking out of the bathroom in his white bathrobe while drying his hair. "It's transparent,” I stammered. He scoffed. “I will let you off just this once, since I'm assuming your shy because you're still a virgin. But the next time you disobey my orders, I will deal ruthlessly with you,” he whispered, climbing onto the bed. He placed his palm on my face, making me shiver in fear as I tried to shield my body from him. I can't stop shaking fearfully. Calvin will shoot me dead if he realizes I'm no longer a virgin. God, what have I done? If he can kill his son, my life is a foregone conclusion. Tears ran down my cheeks as he tore off my gown, while I silently waited for death.
