Chapter 7 - MEMORIAL

995 Words
Christy quickly opened up her CEO's office and walked in. She had been summoned by him. There was another man beside the CEO. They were sitting on his desk, facing the window; backing her. Christy guessed the other guy had to be the CEO's Elder brother. He turned on hearing the sound of approaching footsteps. "Hey! Miss Christy, How are you doing?" Ken asked with a big smile on his face. He was holding the CEO's shoulders which appeared to be shaking. "I'm fine, Sir. The CEO sent for me" Christy replied. "He didn't... I was the one that called you" Ken quickly clarified. Christy's eyes widened and Ken became serious once again. "It's your boss. I don't know why he won't listen to me. Please talk to him" Ken pleaded. "And what exactly am I talking to him about?" Christy asked, perplexedly. Ken motioned for Christy to come closer. "Try your best for him" Ken said and left. "Mr CEO, is anything the matter?" Christy asked. Just then, she noticed a drop of liquid on The CEO's lap. Lo and behold! Big Boss was crying. "Boss, why are you crying? What happened?" Christy asked again. She was getting really worried. "Go away! I don't want you to see me like this. Just go" The CEO said. Christy embraced The CEO and soothed him and sang songs to him until he became quiet and she couldn't feel him quaking with sob. "Mr CEO, are you alright?" Christy asked as she disentangled herself from his arms and found out that he was fast asleep. Christy was surprisingly enchanted by The CEO's looks. The CEO has thick eyebrows and from his eyelids, one would notice that his eyes were small though he has long and curly eyelashes. Down to his nose, they were too good to be true and his lips were...so inviting. All in all, his round face and soft skin gave him a boyish look. Christy cut off from her inspection and left The CEO'S office. . . The next day, Christy got to work very late. On reaching her office, The CEO was on her chair, operating her computer. He looked up from the computer and smiled at her "Good morning, Miss Christy. You're late to work today" The CEO pointed out as he winked at Betty and Kamara, who had probably been worried about Christy. "Good morning, Sir" Christy greeted. She waved at her colleagues and fixed her gaze on the Man-Boy in front of her. "What's up with yesterday? I didn't understand why you..." Christy was still saying when The CEO moved quickly and covered her mouth, preventing her from speaking further. His palms were incredibly soft and smooth. "If you're free during lunchtime, you can come up there" The CEO said, pointing upwards towards the ceiling, indicating his office. His office is on the last floor of the building. "... And I'll explain everything to you" The CEO promised and left. "Wow! Chris baby, you didn't tell me when you started getting along with The CEO" Betty accused excitedly, sitting on her desk. Crazy Betty. "I thought you were a holier than thou" It was Kamara now. "Don't over think it. Infact, think what you want. It's your mind, afterall" Christy retorted, exasperatedly. The girls continued bombarding Christy with silly questions till David interrupted. "Can't you girls keep quiet for once?" David asked. These days, the guys keep to themselves more. "David, please mind your business" Betty was quick to reprimand him. Divine tried to say something but Kamara shut him up as well. "See, The CEO asking Christy out for lunch is not a big deal. Allow her to socialize please" Divine continued, refusing to keep quiet. "Divine, the last time I checked, it's none of your business" Betty replied. "Betty, it doesn't concern you guys either" David said, rising from his seat. Kamara and Betty, refusing to be intimidated stood firmly and argued with the other guys. "It's okay!" The irked Christy raised her hands, standing in the middle of the two parties to quell their noise. "The next person to talk will have it out with me" Christy said with all authority and everywhere became silent. "I don't know what's wrong with you guys" Christy concluded and stormed out of the office. She entered the elevator and in the next minute had barged into The CEO's office. "You're happy now, right? You've successfully caused commotion in our office" Christy said. She was visibly angry. The CEO couldn't understand a head or tail of what she was saying. "I don't really understand you" The CEO said. "Oh! You don't know what you did a while ago and those argumentative devils picked it up from where you stopped. I just came to say "Thanks for everything"" Christy said and turned to walk out when The CEO hugged her from behind. "I'm sorry, please" The CEO pleaded. Unknown to them, Ken came into the office at that instant and on seeing what was happening, he quietly left and shut the door. "So, why were you crying yesterday?" Christy asked as they disengaged from the embrace. "It was my Mom's memorial" The CEO said without mincing words. "She died in a plane crash when I was 10" "Whoa! I'm so sorry. May her soul rest in peace" Christy intoned. "Amen and Thanks" The CEO said while going to the refrigerator to get a canned juice for Christy. "Thanks for the drink" "Since it's not yet lunch time, why don't we play a game?" The CEO suggested, looking at Christy, pleadingly. "Mr CEO..." Christy was saying. "Come on. Stop calling me that. My name is Louis" The CEO said, smiling. "Louis? What a nice name" Christy praised. "Thanks. So, are you interested in the game?" Louis asked again. "I need to know what the game is all about first before deciding" Christy said, gently placing her drink on the table.
