Nicole and I go still at the sound of the howls, at the feeling of tremors traveling through the ground, at the eeriness of the noise carried by the wind. My eyes go wide but instantly water at the ice flakes and the cold. Squeezing them shut, I am pushed harshly by Nicole who whispers at me to hurry into the passenger side of the vehicle. The few steps it takes me to get into the vehicle flies past me in a blur. The next thing I know I am sitting in the passenger seat, shivering, my breath fogging the air in front of me. The engine roars to life and I cringe. "Could this vehicle be any louder?!" Nicole hisses. I look through the back window between the clumps of ice and snow, trying to see if we have drawn any attention towards us, but not a living soul stirs in response to the start
