Silence. Silence. Silence. More silence. Silence upon silence. Heaps of silence. Cup overflowing with silence. Inner world exploding with silence. The explosion itself also being silent, of course. Our cheers had lasted maybe a minute and were replaced, once more, by silence. Although I know less than a smattering of French, I would prefer it to this silence. It is making me uneasy, running my nerves ragged, reinstating a chill even as the vents blast us with heat. I put my jacket back on, pulling the hood over my head, somehow managing to remain hypervigilant throughout it all. We have passed by a couple vehicles, one red car and one white, but as long as we don't encounter an entourage of black and charcoal trucks we should be fine. Should be.
